Eugene "Nick the Blade" Gesuale (Pittsburgh)

Post by JCB1977 »

I just got word from my Larimer Ave peeps that Eugene Gesuale, recently released from prison, passed away down in Florida. He was a key figure in the "Pittsburgh Connection" from the movie Goodfellas and Henry Hill. Gesuale was a Chucky Porter loyalist.

Cause of death: He choked on his food!!! Very ironic for one of the most feared, brutal gangsters that Pittsburgh has ever seen.

Imagine surviving the streets and prison, then finally getting out, (which I didn't think he would live long enough to do) and croaking after only a couple free years. Ah well,IMHO he didn't deserve any freedom,so I guess he made out OK. BTW, my understanding was that he had a heart attack while having a drink.

My Larimer Ave friends who spend quite a bit of time in Florida said he choked on his food...I got this from Eugene's closest friend. At the end of the day, he was an animal and one of the most brutal enforcers in Pittsburgh's history. FBI SA Roger Greenbank stated that "Gesuale is one gangster who has absolutely no redeeming qualities." Greenbank also stated that while under surveillance at his Mount Washington Condo that he witnessed Gesuale snorting coke with one hand while holding his dick and pissing off the balcony.

Pittsburgh mobster with 'Goodfellas' gang drug ties dies in Ormond bar

A mobster known as the "Pittsburgh connection" for the real-life gangsters portrayed in the Oscar-winning movie "Goodfellas" died Thursday evening after he suffered a heart attack at an Ormond Beach bar.

Eugene "Nick the Blade" Gesuale, 73, was having his customary Pinot Grigio at Past Times Restaurant and Bar, when he suddenly fell over," said bar manager David Ruiz.

"He was on his cellphone and it looked as if he was having a seizure," Ruiz said Friday afternoon. "I called 9-1-1."

Ruiz said Gesuale, who was released from federal prison in October 2014 after serving 24 years for racketeering and drug trafficking, was a regular at the bar, which just opened in May at 709 S. Nova Road.

According to published reports and websites that chronicle gangsters, Gesuale was referred to as the "Pittsburgh connection" in the classic Martin Scorsese film "Goodfellas." The title referred to cocaine being supplied from Pittsburgh.

In real life, Gesuale — a member of the famed Genovese crime family.

I believe he was brought in by Chuckie Porter. JCB might know if he was made. I don't believe he was.

Eugene Gesuale was a Larimer Ave guy and a very close associate to Mike Genovese. He was considered a high ranking associate but was never made because his primary source of income was narcotics. He also ran a prostitution ring in Manhattan's Little Italy and was Chucky Porter's top narcotics trafficker. He was one of the most feared gangsters in Pittsburgh but also one of the most loyal. He did a few stints in prison, the last one being 28 years and he kept his mouth shut. He began to choke on his food and had a massive heart attack down in Florida.

I believe if he hadn't went away he would have been made around the same time porter strollo and Ernie bioniondillo were all made. Like everyone has said here huge earner and Michael geneovese embraced narcotics trafficking from here to Youngstown to Altoona to where ever he had any influence. He was one of the few bosses that didn't openly discourage it.

I don't believe that Ernie was a "Made Man". In fact that would surprise me. Let's see what JCB has to say.

I believe that Lenny and Joey were made before '89. I do know that Henry was the last guy Michael Made.
