I think he may have been listed as an Acting Capo at one time. I don't recall.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Yeah, Gravano says he doesn't know the guy but Gotti says he knows him. They're talking about a making ceremony for Proto, Richie Martino, Dom Borghese, Tommy Cacciopoli, and John Rizzo Jr.

ya i think Mario in the bronx gets bumped to "may"...now what I find interesting is I believe they had a making ceremony or a few prior to this wiretap BUT Locascio and these guys are asking if its ok to say this. the list doesnt have last names. almost like they have never did one. it was weird.
what is tony proto's relationship to cabert if there is one?
In a recorded conversation on March 17, 2004, STAINO, in the presence of defendant RANIERI, discussed with an undercover FBI agent a recent 60 Minute broadcast and how it related to a muscular individual in the restaurant named "Vince." While referring to "Vince," STAINO said "The guy there? Yeah, he's with me. He's with me. (UI) John Stanfa." Thereafter, STAINO described in cryptic language the history of the mob war between the Merlino and Stanfa factions of the Philadelphia LCN Family. STAINO compared the two factions to IBM and GE, stating "I'm IBM and IBM took over GE." STAINO then stated that Joey (referring to convicted Philadelphia LCN Family boss Joseph Merlino) was IBM. Then the undercover FBI agent asked "What about Vince, was he IBM or GE?" STAINO replied "He was with GE." STAINO further stated: "Two different companies. Here's our company, here's the bad company. The bad company gets taken over. He (referring to Vince) was with the bad company.... So now the new company takes over. . . . I'm with the good company. I'm on the Board of Directors and therefore I absorb him (referring to Vince)." STAINO further stated that "Vince . . . can't do anything without checking with the Board. . . . I'm on the Board of Directors of the company. . . . I'm like the CFO. CFO. So not the Chairman of the Board. I'm the CFO."

Yes he was acting for a time. Proto is a longtime Belleville guy too. Proto , Skins, Pernas all knew each other very well. Also Licata knew all these guys very well. I believe they all went to the same HS in Newark. Michael Coppola too same HS. All Belleville / north Newark guys. Back in the day that area along branch brook park in North Newark off Bloomfield ave. Almost all Italian. Tons of Italian owned store fronts. now you just got Dicky Dees, Calandra's bakery and handful of other ones hanging on. I believe the Ricciardi's and Taccetta's were from Valisburg section closer to the Orange's Small world yet they all wound up on 3 separate LCN families.
Staino seems like a real shit talker. I already bet he was a nice mild mannered guy but once he had a few drinks he became ANT. So many gangsters from all walks of life are like that.
I don't know him personally, and I don't remember ever seeing him in the neighborhood even though he probably was quite a bit, but Staino was known as a pretty tough guy.
Interesting Chucky. People seem to think hes a Ligambi tool who slid on in but seems to of gotten where he got on merritt despite the crying at sentencing and being Sonny Blacked.
