Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)

Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
They appear to have been separate crews at some point. Certainly by 2004 (and likely long before) when that New Jersey OC report came out.
All roads lead to New York.
Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
When Tino was in Prison it was said that Coppola was "acting Capo" for him up until he went on the lam in 98'. So I don't know how you came up with Tino not being Capo up until 2004...? I would have to imagine the split in the Patterson crew(gatto) and Tino's Down Neck crew happened long ago. Most of Tino's guys operated out of a club in Newark and another place in the Lodi area. But the rackets were really centered around the Port. And they were vast...Wiseguy wrote:They appear to have been separate crews at some point. This article claims that Paul Mancuso of Glen Rock NJ was an associate of Gatto. He was arrested last year http://digitaledition.qwinc.com/publication/?i=300457

Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. Paterson doesn't have any guys hanging out there. I don't know mancuso. It's possible he may stop in and out of the cafes but for the most part I haven't seen any guys of status around the way. Then again I don't stop in like I used to. There's no organization or clubhouse type of deal in the city. Just some old timers who blow their cash on keno and play scala and scopa or watch the soccer. I'm gonna ask around abut mancuso.

Paul Mancuso is a long time informant and was around the last Bonanno guy in NJ which it turned out he was an informant too after he died. Mancuso's only tie to the Gatto crew was his gambling debts. That's about it. Mancuso was also around Frank Langano (murdered Lucchese soldier) who it turns our was also an informant. Seems all the rats hang out together...
Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
Mancuso has been a dry snitch for yrs. He was finally outed in 2013 officially when he got popped for a Ponzi scheme in attempt to payoff his massive gambling debts. But its been known he was for yrs that he most likely was but people still let him run bets for them so he could pay off his debts. Back in the late 90's he was around Joe Taormina the last Bonanno Skipper in NJ who himself was an informant. Anyone involved in Gambling in the last 30yrs knows who Paul Mancuso is. He is the guy that always walked away without serious jail time and never got hit with RICO while everyone else did. He had heavy heavy gambling debts for the last 20yrs. I think the only reason he didn't get clipped when Frank Lagano did was because he made himself scarce. Lagano didn't hide and he got hit. Also Gatto's attorneys got it in writing that Lagano was an informant so maybe that is the difference.BobbyPazzo wrote:I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. Not familiar with him but good info. Then again I'm young.

Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
Where does the info come about Taormina having flipped? I remember Augie saying that on the other board, but I've seen nothing else to suggest he was cooperating before he died and wouldn't take Augie's word for anything. Maybe something is out there and I haven't found it.
Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
Augie was talking about Mancuso who was arrested with Taorima which later turned out to be true. Taormina's informant status came out after he died. I will have to do a google search of it. I remember his whacko ex-wife ranting and raving about it to the papers. It was a long time ago. But Augie was calling Mancuso a dry snitch back then.

To clarify, I do think Fiumara was a captain, and they were separate crews, then and long before.Rocco wrote:When Tino was in Prison it was said that Coppola was "acting Capo" for him up until he went on the lam in 98'. Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
Me too. two completely different set of crews and turf so to speak. The brother inlaw of Gatto Alan Grecco went down for murder. He put an ice pick thru a guys ear killing him. The guy was a dead beat gambler. I believe he got life. And the older Gatto (Streaky) got like 40yrs and died in the can.Wiseguy wrote:To clarify, I do think Fiumara was a captain, and they were separate crews, then and long before.Rocco wrote:When Tino was in Prison it was said that Coppola was "acting Capo" for him up until he went on the lam in 98'. Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
Yeah, if you could find any kind of source on Taormina being an informant that would help settle this. He was indicted as a captain but aside from online gossip I've never seen it confirmed that he flipped.Rocco wrote:Augie was talking about Mancuso who was arrested with Taorima which later turned out to be true. His widow is definitely fucked in the head and I wouldn't trust her on anything:

A few hours after his death from cancer in October 2002, the spirit of alleged Bonanno Crime Family Captain Joseph A. Taormina visited his wife Marianne, she says.
His return from death was no great surprise. Marianne Taormina had seen spirits of this kind. She had had vision from spirits from when she was 18 years old.
Re: Gene Catena (Genovese Captain)
Yeah she is a nut bag. I did a quick google search but couldn't find anything as it is pretty old now.
