Post by JeremyTheJew »

The other thread about riina made me wonder what connection riina had w galante and such?

Or were they really the other side?

I think the zips involved in the Pizza Connection trial were Riina's enemies, since they were allied with Gaetano Badalamenti, one of the leaders of the anti-Riina opposition. With Galante, I don't know, but he was killed in 1979, while Riina's absolute power was definitely established only in 1981 I think, so I don't know if Riina was already able to do international business in the 70s...

Not sure if they were "allied", but moreso just a strictly business viewpoint looking for a coke supplier..In the book, it mentions that one of the Lamberti's, Giuseppe I believe, who despite being around for the initial calls from Badalamenti, eventually stopped showing up for them as he was concerned for his relatives still across the pond and didnt want them to face the fallout from Riina for dealing with an ostracized boss..I believe Ganci may have been in the same situation.

Salvatore Mazzurco and Salvatore--or Giuseppe--Lamberti seemed to be the main contacts for GB, as well as his nephews..

Need to get that one off the shelf and reread it.

Last Days of the Sicilians, Dwalin. Great book, which you can probably find relatively inexpensive on Amazon. There was a sequel that deals primarily with the trial itself, which is also a good read. But, my copy was missing thirty fucking pages, albeit early in the book.

Joe Lamberti member Partinico mafia family was trying to put Gaetano Badalamenti in a trap so they could kill him. Nene Geraci boss of Partinico was one of the closest to Riina. Joe Ganci was a member of San Giusppe Jato and Brusca the boss was close to Riina as well. Also, Pippo Bono was considered with the Corleonesi.

Badalamenti's operation was an old one, focus in mid west including some of the mafia families there and was running for about 20 years and was his blood family and trusted people from Cinisi. Its why so many mafiosi hated him because he had this network which didn't rely only on Cosa Nostra.

Riina only became an enemy of Badalamenti + Bontate, Riccobono, Scaglione, Di Cristina and Pippo Calderone in about 1977. Badalamenti and these others were informants and passing anonymous information on enemies to Lt Col Giuseppe Russo. They tried to have Riina arrested as well but he was suspicious and didn't fall in the trap. Thats why he killed him first in Ficuzza. Buscetta said Riina also used to send anonymous tips to the police if he couldn't kill a guy.
