Greg DePalma

Post by Teflon john »

I was watching a Mafia tv show on the Jack Garcia undercover investigation. I have read so many books and things on the Gambino family and except for the Jack Garcia book i dont remember reading anything on Greg DePalma but they portray him as a powerful capo,i mean i've heard him mentioned but thats about it. Anyone know any info on him from back when he was younger and a soldier and such. Also the way the guy got out of prison and started reclaiming his territory and demanding people kick up,anybody think that the Richie Aprile character on the Soprano's might have been based on him of does at least remind any of you of him?

Greg was originally a Brooklyn guy. He moved to Scarsdale after he got married and ended up in Tony Baker's Harlem/Bronx crew. When Tony died he ended up with Braciole. No way was Richie Aprile based on Greg. Greg did almost as much damage to the Gambinos with his mouth as Gotti did. But Greg did it twice. During the Westchester Premier Theatre fiasco, then twenty years later with the Scores case. That he died of natural causes is a miracle. The guy dragged his younger son into the life (who wasn't cut out for it in the slightest, hung himself in the can, and lingered in a coma for almost ten years), and alienated his older son and wife to the point where he was completely estranged from them at the end of his life. Oh yeah, he didn't leave a penny behind either. Greg DePalma is a cautionary tale about that life if ever there was one.

The Richie Aprile character cam about before the latest incident with DePalma. But yeah he had a big mouth. He was made in 1977 and like 2 days later the Feds cought him on tape talking about his making ceremony. He had just met Jack Falcone and was already laying out the Gambino family's leadership to him among other incriminating things. In fact the Feds specifically targeted him for the Falcone operation even before DePalma had gotten out of prison because they knew he had such a big mouth.

Absolutely, Pogo. The Feds COUNTED on his mouth. They laid the groundwork with Garcia and Fat Pete BEFORE Greg was even released from prison. The guy was as predictable as the sunrise.

That I took off Rocco DeMeo. Cocksucker had the toughest reputation in Essex County but he never came back after I got through with him.
