Hahah great response..but yea why would you ask that? I mean you why the fuck was Scarpas club called "The Wimpy
Boys ".. Or Fatico/Gottis called "the Bergin Hunt & Fish"?! I mean who gives a shit the names mean nothing

But to be fair, I ask alotta questions here bc im an admitted mob novice and dont claim to know much besides from books/articles ive read and im relatively new here so hopefully my questions dont come off as dumb and or douchy

Side note.. I fuckin love the informed and detailed responses you guys provide to my inquiries ...not tryn suck anyones dick here but this site is wayy more serious, reliable , and knowledgeable than other sites , so Not that it means nethin but yall fuckin rule

Gentlemen, pull your your fucking heads in. Please.

Great question.

What weird names. Toyland, Bergin fish, Wimpy etc.
Who wouldn't wonder about these names. history, basis etc.

You hear a name of an Italian mens social club called 'Toyland' and your response isn't to ask....'ummm huh?!?'

I'd genuinely love to hear an explanation of some of these...

So would I . At least some of them. Toyland is one I'd actually like to hear. Could care less about the Bergin. And I think Scarpa knew it'd be a tongue in cheek joke type of thing. But toyland? Were they involved in illegal toy distribution or something? Sounds like an early scheme Merlino would have come up with back in the day.

Maybe it had to do with the Bonannos involvement in a toy making union that they had going back in the day. Just a wild guess.

I remember reading somewhere that the Bergin Hunt and Fish was originally on Bergen St in Brooklyn. When they moved it to Queens they misspelled the name. Where they got the hunt and fish part I have no idea.

I honestly don't know. That intersection is in Brownsville and that would make sense being that most of the Italians that lived there eventually moved to Canarsie, Ozone Park and Howard Beach.
