Course on The History of the New York Mafia

Post by AlexHortis »

Mob history fans,

I'm excited to announce that The City University of New York (CUNY) Gotham Center is offering a live, online course on The History of the New York Mafia this coming January/February 2025.

We will take a serious look together at the history of Cosa Nostra in New York. Like my nonfiction book The Mob and the City: The Hidden History of How the Mafia Captured New York, the course goes beyond who-killed-who rumors.

Rather, we'll explore how the Five Families fit squarely into the history of New York City, and how they actually operated. The course covers the Prohibition era, through the 1950s, and the crackdowns on Cosa Nostra in the 1980s. Along the way, we'll question some popular myths about the Mafia, and have lively class discussions. We'd love to have some knowledgeable members of The Black Hand Club to help enrich the experience for the other adult students.

The total cost is $150 for the 4 live, online class sessions (90 minutes each Wed. from 5:30-7:00 pm), and free reading materials. Perfect holiday gift for the mob history lover in your family!

Registration is now open at:

Tony, good to have you. I've got "friends of ours" on this site. Really good discussions here. It's been a decade since my first book, so I'm just getting back into the forums now.

Happy holidays,
Alex

Really good idea! You should record all the sessions and sell them along with the course materials.
