Joe "Joe C" Caridi

Post by Mikeyb211 »

Hey fellas,

Was wondering if anyone knows more about Joe Caridi? I know he was bustd in 2000 I believe for running a loansharking/ gambling ring outta some titty bar in Long Island and I think he did a few years but cant find netbing more about him online..I think at the time he was listed as the Lucchese official consigliere?

Any idea if he still holds that title or if hes capo? Also never really heard of him before those few articles, anyone have any info on whos crew he came up in and who's crew he came up in? Was he one of the guys made by Vic and Gas or does he go back to Tony Ducks? I recall the indictment listed him in 2000 as being around 51-52 which would put him in his late 60s now. Any insight on his history and what his position is in the current admin would be much appreciated..I believe when he was brought up on BB someone possibly PB said he had a good relationship with Stevie and the Bronx faction which has traditionally been the power of that family..any and all insight or info is much appreciated, thanks fellas

He was sponsored into the family in 1995/6 by Louie Daidne so he most likely came up in the Vario-Cutaia Crew. He looks to have become Consiglieri in 2000/1 (coincidently replacing Daidone). He ay have also served as Acting UnderBoss during 2001-2.

He was made in 1995 in a ceremony presided over by Defede. John Baudanza and Joseph Tangorra were the other two believed to have been inducted at the same time but not 100% on that. Caridi was sponsored by Daidone and reported to Domenico Cutaia until about 1997 when he was put direct with Louis Daidone (official Consigliere).
Any idea why they traded associates? Never heard of the families straight up swapping people like sports teams. Massino must have gotten at least a 2nd round draft pick along with Conte's guy.

Also do you know what members/crew Caridi was with in the Bonannos? Must be strange to go from being a Bonanno associate to the Lucchese consigliere in ~6 short years.

Associates being loosely affiliated with more than one Family is not totally unheard of. This could be the case with Caridi and the unidentified associate. It´s possible that the meeting between DeFede and Massino cemented what Family they actually belonged to.

Mikey, Caridi was sentenced in 1986 to four years in prison for bank fraud. But I don´t know the details. I guess you will have to google it if you´re interested to find them out.
There you have it, never printed before.

It started out as a beef put in by the Bonannos over the guy with Conte. The Bonannos put in a claim on the guy and a sitdown was held, afterwards a direct meeting with Massino and the guy (no name given, but described as a drug guy) was given over and Caridi was released to the Luccheses.

Only similar kind of deal that comes to mind is with the Gambinos/Bonannos around mid-1996, where Michael DiLeonardo and Anthony Graziano had a dispute over a guy named Salvatore Romano. Romano was on-record with John Gammarano and after Gammarano went to prison he told Romano to report to Graziano instead of a Gambino guy. This obviously pissed the Gambinos off and DiLeonardo put in a claim, was given control of Romano and as part of the agreement a business partner of Romano's was released from the Gambinos and put with the Graziano crew.

As far as associates of one Family being formally released to another that's happened a lot. There could be a whole thread on it, but just one example would be Joseph Defede himself. Started out in the Colombos, released in the mid-1980s from the Patty Amato crew to direct control of Vic Amuso.
Thanks for the info and context. That makes more sense than them randomly deciding to trade.

And yeah, I'm familiar with the idea of simply releasing associates to another family. That's happened quite a bit.

Defede is from queens. Howard beach to be exact, his son used to own a steak house on cross bay.

I wonder how it makes a guy feel just getting traded away like a baseball card.... You would def have to take it as a business stand point and not a personal one.

Thanks for the solid responses fellas. I have no clue that Joe C started out with the Bonnanos...So he was in the Cutaia/Vario Crew in Bk, but I do believe his most recent case had him operating outta LI? He was consig when Louie Bagels was the acting, and was Stevie Wonder the UB at that time? Id guess he has a pretty solid relationship with Stevie, unless anyone has other information.

Does anyone know whats his current rank? Seeing as hes free, and was the onetime consigliere and may very well still be? If not, and hes just a capo, any idea who's in his crew?

Nothing personal but unless you offer an explanation on where you get your info from I doubt anybody on this forum believes anything you post.

Currently you're basically just wasting your time posting.

And I honestly dont mean offence. Simple truth.
