Re: Bobby Bellavia..
A lot of people were surprised about him participating in something like this. He might need the money. Who knows. This clip is from 2 or 3 years ago and nothing has come out yet.
He was screwed in his conviction and is bitter about it. He was not found guilty of the murder from my understanding but the judge still sentenced him to a long sentence because the judge thought he was guilty.
I do know at least one scam he and his son were involved in when he got out of jail. He organized a queen of hearts game which was hosted at pyramids pool hall in Addison. It was up to 2 or 3 hundred thousand and then it just ended. Nobody knows who won but Bobby and his son went to Florida for a while after. Despite being close with Solly D before jail, I don’t know anyone that has seen him with him and Solly D is out a lot.
Actually he would be a great candidate to go on the Joey Merlino show and talk about his experience with th Feds.

Video is from 2017 actually - this was for Mob Adjacent the book authored the Gentile brothers, whose father ran gambling clubs for the Outfit. I don't think many people were surprised about Bellavia - they had multiple other mentions and guys names in there. Frank Cullotta's brother took part in this as did relatives of Giancana and Cerone. Scalise also gave permission to be used. This was very much a look back at history book not an expose' - its a great book I'll add. I'm sure people like Bellavia were paid for this.Patrickgold wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 9:13 am A lot of people were surprised about him participating in something like this. He might need the money. Also, I think Solly D is quite old these days - these photos of him at restaurants on Facebook are all 10+ years old. Last photo I saw of him, he was quite thin and frail.

Re: Bobby Bellavia..
I believe also that Gabeet only talks about stuff from when he was a young hoodlum pulling burglaries in this project. Nothing about the outfit as such, don’t believe that he so much as mentioned anything related to the organization itself. If I’m forgetting something, someone can correct me.
I don’t think anyone would see this as “ratting”. Bellavia was a stand up guy who did serious time and didn’t flip, my impression is that this interview didn’t reflect poorly on him, but I could be wrong. As NB noted there were other people who participated with the Gentile brothers, which was focused on long done historical stuff and whose family was connected going back to guys like Vincenzo Benevento on Grand Ave. We’ve discussed the book a bit before on the board here and it is highly recommended if one wants a glimpse into the whole world of familial/social networks in Chicago that extended out from and intersected with the actual LCN organization.

Re: Bobby Bellavia..
None of those other ppl are made *and* (scalise was not made) participated in killings. Bellavia was a major guy. It was indeed very shocking and unlike the outfit to have a guy of his stature going on camera. Joe cullotta cuts hair for a living. This is the first time we’ve really seen an outfit guy with a button come out & do this. It’s very surprising that it wasn’t much bigger newsNorthBuffalo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 11:58 amVideo is from 2017 actually - this was for Mob Adjacent the book authored the Gentile brothers, whose father ran gambling clubs for the Outfit. Also, Solly D just beat cancer. Definitely does not move like he used to. Definitely more slower but his health has rebounded. Last time I saw him he looked healthy, but definitely can tell the cancer took a toll on him.

Good lord i remember when he got out, can't believe it's 8 years already.
Re: Bobby Bellavia..
Who presided over the 1988 & 89 ceremonies?
Re: Bobby Bellavia..
Some details are returning to me, andI also definitely recall there being some drama and hoopla when the Calabrese testimony dropped, because Matassa was always thought to have been straightened out with Solly DeLaurentis at that Como Inn ceremony, with Solano as his sponsor, and it caused resentment amongst the ranks because everyone knew that Solano was only doing it as a favour to the old man (Matassa Sr).
Who did Nick C say sponsored Matassa at the ‘83 ceremony?
Wouldn’t be surprised if Bellavia was made in 89 at the Como

How much time did he do in total?Snakes wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 6:47 pm I hate to be that guy because apparently it's now mean to say this, but I'm pretty sure this was posted a few months back. Re: Bobby Bellavia..
Nick said Solano sponsored Matassa. I don't remember there being too much controversy about it as we don't know who informed on the '89 ceremony, but I'd tend to believe Nick over them. The CI only knew Matassa through D'Amico and was also the source for D'Amico's alleged resentment over Matassa being made before him. I suppose the CI could also be wrong about DeLaurentis, but we haven't had anything to contradict that like we had with the Matassa info.Aunt+Baby wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 1:07 am Some details are returning to me, andI also definitely recall there being some drama and hoopla when the Calabrese testimony dropped, because Matassa was always thought to have been straightened out with Solly DeLaurentis at that Como Inn ceremony, with Solano as his sponsor, and it caused resentment amongst the ranks because everyone knew that Solano was only doing it as a favour to the old man (Matassa Sr).

He was arrested in February of 1990. He (along with Infelise, DeLaurentis, and Aleman) was denied bond, so he was in prison (outside of court appearances) for more than 26 years until his release in April 2016.Tonyd621 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 6:37 amHow much time did he do in total?Snakes wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 6:47 pm I hate to be that guy because apparently it's now mean to say this, but I'm pretty sure this was posted a few months back. I see. Thanks, this makes sense. What other captains (sponsors) does Calabrese mention are present?Snakes wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 6:37 amNick said Solano sponsored Matassa. Are we positive that Abbinanti’s name is not mentioned in any of the late 80s ceremonies?
I remember now that black Angelo on Anerican news post is the one who alluded to Vic Spilotro being made & being sponsored by Mooch Eboli. Probably untrue

Re: Bobby Bellavia..
I got all this info from Nick Calabrese's testimony in 2007. He and his brother were recommended for membership by Angelo LaPietra on a Friday night in early October 1983. Calabrese remembered the Minnesota Vikings were playing the Chicago Bears that day, so we can tell this was Friday 9 October. Two days later, on the Sunday morning (11 October), Jimmy LaPietra picked the Calabrese brothers up and drove them to a restaurant on Roosevelt Road, west of North Mannheim Road. Nick and Frank were taken into a kitchen area with the other inductees where they waited until Al Tornabene came to collect them one by one. The ceremony took place in the restaurant area where Joey Aiuppa was sitting at the head of the table along with Angelo LaPietra, Sam Carlisi, Johnny DiFronzo, Toots Palermo, and Vince Solano.
LaPietra sponsored the Calabrese brothers and Rocky Infelice. Carlisi sponsored Jimmy Marcello and Tony Zizzo. Palermo sponsored Nick Guzzino and Albert Tocco. Solano sponsored Frank Belmonte and Johnny Matassa. DiFronzo didn't sponsor anyone but was there in his capacity as a capo.
Nick learned about the 1988 ceremony from Jimmy LaPietra. It was Father's Day (Sunday, 19 June 1988) and he and Frank were at a celebration for one of LaPietra's granddaughters. LaPietra sat down with them and said that Jimmy DiForti had been made earlier that day. A week or two later, Nick met with DiForti who talked more about his ceremony. DiForti said he had been made along with Tony Chiaramonti, Pete DiFronzo, Rudy Fratto, and Jerry Scarpelli.

I heard Vic was made after his brothers’ murder to appease him and keep him from trying to seek revenge. Vic ended up dying in 1997.Aunt+Baby wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 1:01 amI see.
