Joey has been out and about since he's been out of prison in 2015. He's not inconspicuous. Imo, the only guy who shelves Joey in Philly is Joey. I don't believe for a minute anyone holding power in that group tells Joey anything. That goes for George, Stevie or Joe Ligambi. I do believe Joey was smart enough to "retire" because if he didn't he'd be asking for someone to take a shot at him or get everyone around him ostracized. Business doesn't go through him, he's retired, but he keeps his past rep. He's always marched to the beat of his own drummer, nothing new there.

I always think there is a difference here though. For example Tommy gambino when he was in Florida or Sal locascio right now, they may be considered “retired” but they are still made men. If he is retired he is still a made guy unless his membership has been revoked I.e. he’s shelved. I expect he doesn’t care one bit either way lol

I just don't see how New York would allow him to retain "his stripes" as they say which is why Scott and Capeci's reporting made sense to me that they had to apply pressure to Philly to get them to do something about it. Would be interesting if we ever find out how it's all gone down but shelved or not I don't think Joey will ever say anything. But crazier things have happened so we'll see
