Yes 100% still a mob presence there and also Dyker which confused as being part of Bensonhurst a lot. Several social clubs still remian although most of them aren't mafia related these days, pure guess as to Italian percentage 20% but Dyker has a much higher percentage probably over 60%.
Re: bensonhurst brooklyn
old block iis mostly italian in dyker

Re: bensonhurst brooklyn
I left NYC almost 8 years ago now
But I was gonna point out that I worked in south Brooklyn area and Chinatowns were there
Now I didn't go to bensonhurst much ... But there's always known spots in every area

Did 'every' Italian move to staten island?
Serious question.
No Italians in the Bronx Queens Brooklyn Manhattan.
Where did they go? Jersey??

Re: bensonhurst brooklyn
Definitely still plenty of Italians in Bensonhurst, although most of the storefronts are now Asian or Middle Eastern owned.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 10:45 pm Did 'every' Italian move to staten island?

Re: bensonhurst brooklyn
As others have said lots of Italians in Dyker.. Gravesend certain areas you can see people looking the part (La Polina, U Cafe)
Bath Avenue is mostly Muslim now, same with Bay Ridge.
My guess is a lot of current “18th ave” guys are in Staten Island/ Monmouth County NJ.. You won’t see Mannino holding court at Il Colosseo (Tom Levicchia talking out of his ass with that story IMO).. I have been there a few times and food is mediocre at best

My blocks mostly Italian. I’m around dyker park. Yes lots of social clubs still here. I’ve actually seen a few more Clubs/hang out spots open up in the past few years. One on 17 ave by NU ave. They def still here.
Re: bensonhurst brooklyn
Some time ago I did an audit of 363 members and where their addresses were listed. 248 (about two-thirds) were in the 5 NYC boroughs while 115 (about one-third) were in Long Island, the north suburbs, or New Jersey. Staten Island was definitely the most densely populated but there are still plenty of members in the other boroughs. There's a lot more location markers in the zoomed in version of the photo below but it gives you an idea.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 10:45 pm Did 'every' Italian move to staten island?

Re: bensonhurst brooklyn
Yes Bath Beach is mostly Muslims and Spanish of all sorts, any Italians left in that neighborhood besides my aunt lives close to Dyker Park it's still nice over there and a good reminder of how the whole neighborhood used to be.
Bay Ridge I disagree with you though, while there are more muslims and chinese everyday it's still majority white. Italians, Irish, and there's a sizeable Greek community also. Very very few Scandinavians left but they still do the 17th of May parade every year. Good restaurants and bars, Bay Ridge is one of the best neighborhoods left in Brooklyn imo.
Re: bensonhurst brooklyn
I agree 100% I live in Bay Ridge - great place to live (I have lived off 95th by ft Hamilton for last 2 years) at least where I live it's majority muslim - more Irish/white closer you get to 3rd avenue..johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 7:32 amYes Bath Beach is mostly Muslims and Spanish of all sorts, any Italians left in that neighborhood besides my aunt lives close to Dyker Park it's still nice over there and a good reminder of how the whole neighborhood used to be.
