Is Nicola Gentile's claim about Al Capone being made corroborated by anyone else? I can't remember. The Bonannos maybe?

Not exactly like Gentile, but Bonanno says Capone is an ally of Masseria. Anyway for Capone to be recognized as boss by Maranzano, he had to be made, so that corroborates Gentile's statement. And I highly doubt he was made into the Chicago borgata

I think I saw on MarFerrell another informant confirm that Capone was made by Masseria. He was a CI from Wisconsin if I remember correctly, I'll try to find the link

Thanks man, yeah if you can find that it would be great. I worded the question very poorly, what I meant specifically was if anyone besides Gentile had made the claim that Masseria had made Capone. (As for Capone being made in general, I think that goes without saying almost, for the reason you give.)

Augie Maniaci is the CI who said Capone was made but he was from Milwaukee, not Wisconsin.

Yes I think it was indeed Maniaci, for the moment I can't find the doc, but I'll let you know as soon as I get my hands on it

Haha Milwaukee's a minor provincial metropolis, I wouldn't expect non-Americans to be super well versed in its particulars.

Yes. Maniaci says Capone was made and promoted to capodecina, just as Gentile did. While Gentile knew Capone personally along with many other 1920s Chicago members, Maniaci knew ex-Chicago members in Milwaukee who were part of these events.

Also Bonanno implies Capone was made after Giuseppe Morello's death, at which point Capone sent gunmen to help Masseria in NYC. Bonanno doesn't say "made", but something like Capone became part of "our world" (the Sicilians) or something to that effect. Capone was likely made a couple of years earlier though, Gentile placing it around 1928.
