Well no. Because the the most recent year we have final numbers for, 2022, it's up 35% from 2019. Not good but definitely not 50%. And it's down 12% this year from 2022. And if it continues at that rate(and keep in mind it's already almost the end of November, NYC will be at around 381. Which would be about a 19% increase from 2019. So no. And again, NYC would be at 16% of what it was in peak 90s. So again, no.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 3:31 pm"By 2021, the homicide rate was 40.7% higher than in 2019"Adam wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 3:03 pmWhere are you getting your murders up 50% since 2019? I think Sonny’s premise holds more than yours. He said 50, corrected himself to 40, and you’re splitting hairs to say 35. 35% isn’t negligible. Your statement that it’s come down since it’s recent high is crazy. That’s like me gaining 50 pounds, losing 15 and saying my weight is down 15. Sure, it’s down, but it’s down from a recent high, not compared to what it usually is.Adam wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 3:41 pmWell no. Again, no not really. Someone can't claim murders are up 50% from an arbitrary year(2019) and be wrong about even old information. At this rate it will be up 19% from 2019. Again, an arbitrary year. And nowhere close to 50% and I think context of past years is relevant. If you're going to throw out murder numbers you better be right about them.jmack wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 4:49 pmI think Sonny’s premise holds more than yours. It’s not really arbitrary though. It was the last year before the COVID lockdowns and the “new normal” - cashless bail, defunding the police, changes in policies for how cities can be policed, etc. not to get political but there is a clear delineation from 2020 forward. If you can’t see that you’re either blissfully ignorant or philosophically dishonest.Adam wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 5:06 pmAgain, no not really. My point Adam, was a POS beat into and lost 86k, and an 80 year old went and 'smacked' his cousin because of it...... and we get a Fed task force, racketeering, multiple DA's....
When, and to take your figures, murder is up 35%.
You don't see an issue there, we'll agree to disagree.

If you don't think a 40.7% increase in the most violent of crime is significant, coupled with associated increases in other most serious crimes, you're politically indoctrinated.

I see this arguments like that about the post-Floyd murder spike all the time.
"Murders have increased substantially starting in 2020 after having been fairly low for a long time."
"Actually murders are still much lower than they were during the Crack Wars thirty years ago so murders are still down!"
I mean, yay, I guess?

Re: Gangland 11-23-2023
I agree that the Romanello case is kind of ridiculous, but I don't think it's a case of the feds using their seemingly limited resources toward something that shouldn't be a priority - their resources are not as limited as one would think, and if you go onto any of the NY's federal district's respective websites and see the "news" section (cases they are prosecuting - whether it's new indictments, or sentencing updates on old ones) there is a LOT of stuff. I mean a LOT of stuff...stuff that is just as shaky and tenuous, even more so, than Romanello and Celso smacking around a gambler. Also, the amount of child porn cases will sicken you - so they are going after that like gangbusters and not really letting the real criminals slide so they can get LCN headlines. They aren't discriminating. Fentanyl, street gangs, human trafficking, fraud, etc.
I went on the Western District of NY's site to look for info on one of those weird Buffalo cases that may or may not have LCN ties, something that wasn't even too old, and I had to dig through countless pages to find it. The amount of cases just in the WNY district, which is dwarfed probably 3x over by the Eastern and Southern districts, was surprising

As you yourself stated they DO have finite resources.
So for every bullshit Romanello case, thats a" Fentanyl, street gang, human trafficker, fraudster" who gets away with it.

Either way you look at Romanello is what 85 years old? He smacked around a guy or a relative of a guy that let himself get into 86k debt with the mob. All the feds had to do was wait a couple years and Rom will no longer be with us. To put all this time and money into a fuckin 80 something year old who we all know for a fact is never gonna rat is a waste of time if you ask me.
That’s the guy, Adriana. My Uncle Tony. The guy I’m going to hell for.
Re: Gangland 11-23-2023
Guess you haven't been on the receiving end of a solid pat on the back for a job well done and that is what these FBI guys are after in this case. The public sure aren't benefiting from this being a priority over almost anything else going on in the city.AntComello wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 5:40 pm Either way you look at Romanello is what 85 years old?
