I think he is held in the highest esteem in the Philly family. I truly think he stepped down as Voss he either tapped the next one or the family voted. It will be interesting to find out. I don't think merlino would be that dumb to continue as official boss and be doing a podcast. The guy is smarter then that
Enjoy the podcast. He has to be retired being this open on a podcast. He's not talking about the life but he seems to be taking dead aim at the FBI and federal prosecution, not to mention informers in general. He laid out the domestic violence cases against a lot of informers. Seems like he's kind of doing a Joe Colombo thing except updated for the podcast world, and the American mob just isn't as strict with the rules as they were in Colombo's day.

Joey's podcast is just another example of the games these street guys play. The Chin played crazy and countless other mobsters feigned death during their respective trials. It's a game. Merlino is front and center. I'm guessing he thinks the Feds are going to ease up on him. But there's too many snitches for that. It's all pointless until there's a trial.

I would never go as far as to say Joey has zero respect on the street. I don’t know every guy on the street I don’t even know a quarter of them and when it comes to Philly I know zero. What I do know is in Brooklyn and Staten Island from the guys that I’m around to the guys that I’m friendly with when Joey comes up he isn’t spoken of in a respectful manner anymore. Suffice it to say this talk show of his isn’t sitting well with a lot of people.
