Ernie Aiello & Storming Social Clubs

Post by InCamelot »

Are there other examples in American LCN where this was a tactic?

It seems Asian almost, where gangs had thousands of members and Triads for example would show strength by bringing as many guys as possible.

Maybe Aiello liked his foreign films?

I can’t think of any examples in the US but I’m reminded of an incident in Canada where a bunch of guys from the Thunder Bay Ndrina showed up to a cafe or a social club I can’t remember which as a show of force because someone from the Rizzutos owed them a lot of money. I can’t remember the exact details but maybe this post will spark someone else’s memory.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here.

It was in one of the books on the Rizzuto’s maybe Rocco Sollecito or someone like that owed them over a million dollars and wasn’t going to pay so they showed up like 30 deep at one of the Rizzuto hangouts.

I think you may be thinking of the D'Amico of Granby dispute. There was a drug shipment that went bad and the D'Amicos felt they were owed money. One of the sons or nephews went to the Consenza and flashed a gun and then went outside, gave a signal, and a convoy of vehicles pulled into the parking lot of the strip mall of where the Consenza Social Club was.

I don't believe there had been any mention of the 'Ndrangheta in Thunder Bay until Siderno's mayor, Alessandro Figliomeni, was arrested on mafia association charges and reports had him making several visits to the city. Some of the trips were on said to be on official business as Thunder Bay and Siderno are sister cities, other trips were to visit family. One article mentioned one trip was to settle a local dispute. A few years later Italy issued arrest warrants for several men from the city and arrested one that was in Italy at the time. This came after Italian police recorded meetings between the Thunder Bay locals and Giuseppe “The Master” Commisso. The Thunder Bay men were complaining about Antonio Minnella.

Etreni, Bruzzese and ’Ndrangheta clan chief Commisso repeatedly complain about “the arrogance” of “Ntoni the goat” who, according to the wiretaps, does “things his own way” and does not pay the proper respect to the ’Ndrangheta’s strict traditions and protocol.
Thunder Bay and Siderno began the process of becoming sister cities when a relative of Minnella was the mayor of Siderno.

That's a kinda strange designation... sister cities?

Is that something people say? Like could Palermo and NY be considered sister cities? Because they mafias have close relations?

How is Thunder Bay in Canada a sister city to Siderno,
in Calabria?

Why not Toronto? ?

Not to stray too far off topic but it's a normal thing and has nothing to do with the mafia.

It always struck me as rather juvenile. You're going to get into a "rumble?" Are you the Jets and Sharks or a modern crime family?

In Connecticut, three Genovese Family associates tried to force their way in to a Gambino controlled club back in 2010. The Gambinos retaliated the next day by sending 8-10 guys to the Genovese club in West Haven and they smashed a few cars up.

Yes it was Sergio Piccirilli, Patrizio D'Amico (Luigi's son), and Luca D'Amico (Luigi's nephew). Piccirilli was allegedly the one who flashed his gun.
