Vincent Alo's Crew
When Jimmy Blue Eyes was watching/assisting Lansky down in Florida, was he still a capo of a crew that operated in New York? If he was the muscle for Lansky down there, did he have a crew in Florida on hand?
I asked this on the other forum. No answers.

Yes he was a Capo of a Crew. The 1963 Valachi chart lists some of the Soldiers in his Crew.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
Re: Vincent Alo's Crew
Hmm Larry Centore was in Alo's crew?
And when he was in Florida, was he still the captain? Did he have made guys in Florida that answered to him?

Re: Vincent Alo's Crew
Alo had a large crew, judging by the Valachi chart. And yes, he was still the captain although occasionally spending chunk of a year down there. Usually, when captains go down there, they designate an acting captain to oversee the crew in NY. That was the case with Mike Coppola (who used Philip Lombardo and others in this capacity) and Tommy Greco (Joe Loiacono and Joe Lapadura) for example. In Alo´s case, Jerry Laietta, Nick Rattenni and possibly later Centore may have been three individuals who acted in his stead.

Wow very interesting. Weren't Rattenni and Centore leading Bronx crews eventually? Or even further up to Westchester?
Re: Vincent Alo's Crew
I've never seen that chart before. It's nice to finally see who some of these men were. I knew names but never seen faces. So out of all the Campisi's only ONE of them was a made guy. I had never known if it was true or not. Thanks for sharing.
Re: Vincent Alo's Crew
If your talking about the Campisi from Jersey, then no, there was more then one that was made. Nana Campisi and then petey white and black both eventually got straighten out I believe......SoliaiAG777 wrote:I've never seen that chart before. It's nice to finally see who some of these men were. Yes, that's who I mean. All under the Genovese's? They certainly were a ruthless bunch.

Re: Vincent Alo's Crew
There is conflicting info on the Campisis.
Charles and Thomas Sr. are listed in many places as Genovese members. According to one informant, their father Pietro was a member as well, and he sponsored Newark Genovese member Carmine Battaglia for membership. The same informant claimed that Battaglia sponsored Pietro Campisi's sons Charles and Thomas Sr. in return. There is speculation (not sure where it comes from) that Pietro Campisi and Carmine Battaglia were originally with the Newark family before it split up.
Picasso was adamant that none of them were made except for Petey Black Campisi, who was made with the Colombos, and Peter White Campisi, who was made with the Gambinos (and later murdered). Are there any other people/places that say those were the only two members? If he's the only source of that info it can't be trusted.

Re: Vincent Alo's Crew
Depends on who you ask. East Bronx would say definitely they were both official captains later on. Centore is listed as such on a LE chart (NYPD if memory serves) dated in 1983. But those charts made by the NYPD have serious flaws. Rattenni was never listed as an official captain by any law enforcement agency. Not saying he never was a skipper, just saying I haven´t seen anything confirming this. If JD sees this thread, he may be able to help out. Both were originally Bronx based. Rattenni moved his operations to Yonkers early on and Centore moved his headquarters to Yonkers in the early 1980s.InCamelot wrote:HairyKnuckles wrote:Alo had a large crew, judging by the Valachi chart. Gasparo and Tommaso Campisi are listed as made Genovese members on FBI charts. Their father Pietro may very well have been made as well, but he was inactive way before those charts were made. Charles Campisi was also listed as made on one chart dated in 1964. But his name does not come up on "members who died-lists" later on. Seems to suggest that he actually wasn´t made. I tend to believe Pic what he said about Pipi Campisi being a Gambino captain before he was murdered in 1983. I´ve seen him mentioned in FBI documents as such. Apparently, he took over from Frank Perrone. Third generation Campisi, Petey Black, son of Salvatore, was made with the Colombos in early 1990s.B. wrote:There is conflicting info on the Campisis.

I believe Gasparo (or Gus) was a son of Pietro. If I´m wrong (keeping track on all these Campisis is confusing), possibly a nephew.AG777 wrote:HK who is Gasparo Campisi?

Re: Vincent Alo's Crew
Thanks HK. There are so many Peteys that I'm getting dizzy trying to read about them. I think we need that book "To Drop a Dime" to see if it lists the entire Campisi family. I only have the book "Deal" which is where I got the names from. On the RD years ago I think I saw a write up on them. I bet David knows. I'll keep looking.
