Oh, it's the cousin, my bad (but still, I never dig into much into the Italiano clan )
Yeah I think in Evil Life, the authors mentioned they are not sure how and if these Papalias were related. However I'm not sure we can be sure if the Papalia clan was wiped-out from Australia as this user said. Not long ago, I saw the name Papalia in a Australian article (it was a nowaday even), if I find it I'll post it here

Also Fabien,
Did you manage to catch The Black Hand? At first I was a bit worried with the direction of the actors, but it turned out to be fantastic and really detailed! Btw, caught a few screenshots. Have you ever seen this one?
I’d never seen this one pic, supposed to be D’Agostino and his gang. There’s three figures crouching in the foreground but I had to crop them out to get the picture sized right to post.
Also screengrabbed this which confirms a Barbaro presence in company with D’Agostino:
Anyway, hopefully you’re able to catch it! I’m gonna try and get in contact with Adam Grossetti.

Re: https://mafiainaustralia.wordpress.com/
No, you’re right, I agree: I don’t believe it’s possible that three murders meant the entire Papalia ‘ndrina, considerably powerful in Calabria, was wiped out win just three murders. I just believe they’re connected on a way that isn’t as clear as direct family lineage, as the cousins are far flung. Just because they have no direct relation that Small and Gilling could see doesn’t speak for much. IIRC, the posters name started with a C, he had some good info for the time, but as is usual much of it hasn’t dated well. I think there were Papalias involved in Operations Inca and Ironside.motorfab wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:25 am Oh, it's the cousin, my bad (but still, I never dig into much into the Italiano clan )

Re: https://mafiainaustralia.wordpress.com/
I didn't see the documentary yet, just a article Anna Sergi posted on twitter. Hope they will broacast it on YouTube.
It's indeed D'Agostino on this photo with Femio next to him on the far right. The guy on the left of D'Agostino look like Giovanni Iacona. The photo is available on a old Australian newspaper. It was a serie of article dedicated to the "black hand" in Queensland. I can send you them if you want.
Great find for Pasquale Barbaro ! I didn't know the name of the guy with Femio & D'Agostino seen that night

Part 2 aired and while it was great info-wise, i think it was the interviews with family descendants that really made the episode.

Re: https://mafiainaustralia.wordpress.com/
So chasing the Fox.
Bruno Romeo, aka Il Volpe is a figure that looms large in the history of Australian’ndrangheta for the last 50 years at least.
He was named in the Brown Repott (1965) as a much feared extortionist that was known to torch crops. In one case a victims refused to pay protection money, and woke up to find over 100 tomato plants pulled out.
Romeo would become known as one of the leading figures in the rural Victorian areas around Mildura and Shepparton, where a large population of Italian farmers worked. Romeo maintained links with people like Domenico Alvaro (who led an ‘ndrine in Sydney) and Stefano Pelle (an ACT leader). Romeo had 3 sons, one of whom married into the Griffith Sergi family. He and his sons where responsible for countless crops between the 1970s and 1990s. In 1981 alone, police disrupted an estimated $16million operation.
He was on the run for over 20 years before being caught in a sting that involved police following his wife.
He comes up because of what’s going on with Domenic Perre’s estate: Perre’s son insisting on clearing his fathers name. Here’s the crazy part; the son has been on these boards before, defending his father , many years back now.
Busy atm, but will update shortly.

Re: https://mafiainaustralia.wordpress.com/
Okay. So this is going back a few years to the Mobbed Up forum. Most of the old heads will know it as one of the forums that preceded Real Deal, and IIRC, it was run by David.
Anyway, I was chatting to a mate about this, and he reminded me of a poster named Cassandro who would regularly post on Australian stuff. Anyway, a poster named “VolpeFurbo” began giving him shit every time Domenic Perre came up. In fact, his main focus was the argument that Perre was innocent, and he would argue the point ad nauseum.
That poster was Domenic Perre’s son, Anthony Perre. A lawyer himself who heads a boutique firm named Perre Legal in Adelaide. This guy.

Oh nah you are right, it’s a fiction and should be taken as such. I think certain parts of the story might’ve sent my imagination running off - ie the Bill the Blond character.AustraliaSteve wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 2:28 amUm.. as far as i know that book is fiction my dude…? The actual case is a pretty interesting without having to go into a fictional account. Not having a go, just what i gathered. I might be wrong..?
Speaking of which, months following Perre’s death, his legal team has decided to keep trying to clear his name under a “mercy plea”…? I’m trying to get more details from a journalist I’m in contact with, but from what I can gather Perre’s children are funding it in an attempt to posthumously clear his name. Apparently there’s ANOTHER Adelaide-based ‘ndranghetisti they’re planning on pinning it on, not Bruno The Fox, but another yet-unnamed mobster. Apparently Perre himself was unaware that his team was planning to use the defence, which could indicate that he himself might have been uncomfortable with it. I’ll update as I learn more.
Big fan of your research mate!

Re: https://mafiainaustralia.wordpress.com/
Not at all mate.
Some interesting things concerning Pasquale Bevilacqua, the Australian based financier arrested in Italy a few months back. A source that I am unable to really corroborate atm has laid out some pretty shocking things regarding his activities, such as linking his release to a corrupt carabinieri officer based in Bianco that’s married to his sister Victoria Bevilacqua. The source also lays out some pretty big claims linking Bevilacqua to Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone, a property developer who held numerous contracts with his brother, Pasquale Carbone (now deceased). The way my source links it essentially has Bevilacqua and his brother Bruno Vincenzo linked to the Molluso family through his first cousin, who he married to get an Australian visa (our green card equivalent) and his in-laws Pino and Teresa Molluso (one of Pino’s nephews, Frank “Kitchen” Molluso was sentenced to 8 years for his role in the Operation Inca ecstasy bust).
Anyway, the way my source lays it out, basically drug money brought into the country through Bevilacqua’s dealings were being funnelled through the Carbone and Molluso families to be laundered through property. This is the part where it gets murkier and harder to corroborate, because there’s nothing on public record that officially links Carbone to drug money, except tangentially through the Calabria Community Club Ltd. a group that started as a social and football club essentially, but has grown into a propert firm with developments including a $24 million apartment complex and several other parcels of land around Fairfield that have been rezoned for commercial enterprise. The charter members of the Club included:
Francesco Nicola Labbozzetta
Giuseppe Carrano
Giovanni Calabro
Domenico Labbozzetta
Filippo Occhiuto
Sam Sofi
Salvatore Albanese
Salvatore Zindato
Rosario Bugge
Giuseppe Musico
Ross Barbaro
Giovanni Cammareri
Carmine Occhiuto
Pasquale Sergi
Vittorio Brescia
Domenico Cammareri
Salvatore Galluccio
Vince Fameli
Rocco De Nicola
Now all these men are legitimate businessmen, with longstanding roots in the Calabrian community. But several have some interesting links to scandal. For example;
the Labbozzetta brothers are known to have petitioned the government on behalf of the Madaferri brothers, in particular in getting Frank’s residency visa granted. Tony Labbozzeta was famously removed from his position as director of Soccer Australia, accused of using the body for his own personal gain.
The Occhiuto brothers
and their father Carmine, as well as Leonello, were involved in a brawl that erupted at a Calabria Club board meeting, where they were meeting to appoint a new head and voting to overturn some decisions regarding development funding, and they were also at one time backing Antonio Rizzotto for board membership. Rizzotto was released from prison in 1999 having served six years for an $8 million drug crop.
And of course there’s Pasquale “Pat” Sergi. He was infamously linked to Aussie Bob Trimbole and Winery Tony Sergi during the Woodward Royal Commission and accused of laundering drug money on their behalf, and would go on to run his own property concerns and became famous for his charity work. He was also close with Nick Scali, the furniture magnate that also petitioned on behalf of the Madaferri brothers, and was also linked to an attempt to corrupt an Italian-Australian politician on behalf of Silvio Berlusconi himself, which came up in the Operation Credo anti-mafia investigations. Sergi is also linked to Joe Tripodi, a controversial former member of parliament that represented Fairfield, and who has been linked to several scandals.
This now ties in to some of the ICAC findings. The Independent Commission Against Corruption in NSW. Several of the aforementioned men have been investigated by the body, and in 2005 Pasquale Carbone was one of 74 people found to have fraudulently obtained a business licence.

Anyway, sorry for the info dump; I’ve just been chasing leads as well as juggling, well, life.
Also fwiw, I’ve been applying for several files to be opened, and paying for opened files to be digitised on the National Archives of Australia. Here’s one that finally got approved; it was open but I paid and got it digitised and is now available to all. Link below.
Love yez, my brothers in arms!

Btw, Fabien; finally updated Queensland Blackhand after contacting Adam Grosseti. What a headache, but i think I’m finally done. Sounds like he’s working on something more too.

An author I’m in touch with has just shared a 100 page dossier with me, which details Australian ‘ndranghetisti activities in what might be the most comprehensive body of text on the subject I’ve ever read.
Once I’ve studied it, I’ll share what I can.

I applied some time back for Woodward Royal Commission Part 1 to be examined, and it would seem enough people have died that they’ve declared it Open to the public.
It cost me $80 to get it digitised, which is fine, but one would think there’d be a University or media outlet willing to do this work.
Anyway, I think it’s 30 days for it to get done.
