Re: Gangland 6/15/2023
Yes, the same Borgognones from Patricia's. Alex has, that I know of, two brothers, Sal and Jack. Their dad is Calogero "Louie Cannoli" Borgognone (the one from the incident with Tommy Shots where Louie Borgognone was telling guys that he was made) and their mother is Patrizia, hence the chain's name.newera_212 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 8:35 am Same Borgognone family that is connected to Patricia's , and where the Dad got a stern talking-to by Thomas Gioeli at La Palina for pretending to be a made guy? If so, seems like these guys have been back and forth on the Colombo fringes for a while. Going to be surprised if this guy had a licensed hand gun but also surprised if he's charged with anything
I hadn't known about the robbery and shooting, but this is very interesting. It was my understanding that something had happened about two years ago that caused one of the brothers to relocate to the Bx, and now I'm guessing it could be related.
Alex Borgogone has some kind of political connections, as he had an aborted run for the 13th Congressional District (now the 11th) in 2012. And on top of having shot a guy in self-defense, he also had a public beef with Anthony Bourdain:
https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/a528 ... interview/
I'll also say that based on what I know they are definitely connected, though I also am unsure of with whom exactly. I'm also guessing that Salanardi's shenanigans were unsanctioned.johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 7:57 amThe Borgognones are respected because they make $$$$ they're definitely with someone but I'm not sure who. Go to either Baci on a Friday or Saturday night in the summer and you're sure to spot quite a few wiseguys eating and drinking. Seems like Salanardi was off on his own doing this, I doubt it was sanctioned by anyone.CabriniGreen wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 6:22 am Those Borgognones arnt pushovers.....Frankly, they seem like the ones who the Colombos should look to recruit.
Successful guys who ain't afraid to stand up for themselves and protect what's theirs. The Mob used to respect guys like this...no?
Gotta love their attorney's sole statement to Capeci:
"The Borgognone family did not cooperate, in any way, with the U.S. Attorney's Office."

Thanks for the info. An interesting family for sure. They have to be rolling in it. Worth a lot more than $10K to somebodyPolackTony wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 6:37 pm

Re: Gangland 6/15/2023
For sure. I'd also note, as others have, that Salanardi is a relative of multiple rats and was described most recently as a "former Colombo associate". Whether the "former" applies at the time of the robbery or indicates him being chased after, I can't imagine that this was a smart move for him. I'm guessing that he was a hater. He was facing charges for pulling a knife on his GF or whatever, while the Borgogones are raking it in with businesses all over the city and boros.newera_212 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 10:24 amThanks for the info. I've never been to either Baci location, and am hardly down that way these days at all. Have heard good things though. Been going to Patricia's in Morris Park for years, though, and is one of my favorite spots in the Bx.

Oddly enough Bensonhurst doesn't have any really exceptional pizzerias but J & V or DaVinci both on 18th Ave are best in the neighborhood. If you decide to eat at a restaurant in Bensonhurst I'd go to Ortobello on Bay Parkway.NickyEyes1 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 11:21 am Going to NYC would love some suggestions for:

I'm not a Bronx guy so I won't make any suggestions concerning the Bronx.
Have a nice trip!

My personal rec for Arthur Ave is Zero Otto Nove. There is also of course Enzo’s and Patsy’s Rigoletto. Hard to go wrong over there IMO. Madonia Bros, Mike’s Deli, Café al Mercato inside the Arthur Ave Market for old school Sicilian street food like trippa.NickyEyes1 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 11:21 am Going to NYC would love some suggestions for:

Bring a bunch of guys with you and we can make a Chicago Bronx crew and mob up on Arthur Ave.

No I wouldn't say that, I'd definitely go to Spumoni Gardens over both of them not just for the pizza but the Brooklyn style ambiance! Sitting outside in the summer and get spumoni after, that's a great Brookkyn experience for sure.NickyEyes1 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 12:16 pmThank you! I didn't suggest that because you said Bensonhurst and Spumoni gardens is more on the border of Gravesend and Bath Beach. Def go there!

One of the things I miss the most about BK is Spumoni Gardens. Can’t find Sicilian style like that in the Bx, just nothing on that level IMO. And the ambiance in the summer is worth the visit in and of itself for sure lol.johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 12:23 pmNo I wouldn't say that, I'd definitely go to Spumoni Gardens over both of them not just for the pizza but the Brooklyn style ambiance! L&B has top notch sicilian for sure, in my opinion only place that beats it is Prince Street but since the hipsters caught on to that place the lines are constantly ridiculous. No shot I'm waiting on line 45 mins for pizza!PolackTony wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 12:26 pm One of the things I miss the most about BK is Spumoni Gardens.
