Anthony Fiato speaks about him in The Animal in Hollywood.

He says Catain was friendly with Peter Milano’s faction and had resisted an extortion attempt by Michael Rizzitello and Jack Lo Cicero, apparently beating up both of them in a fight with help from John Lantino, who Fiato says was a cousin of the Caci brothers.

Fiato then says he extorted 50 grand from Catain by sticking a fork into the face of his bodyguard. I don’t know how true that is and personally kinda doubt the Lantino story as well, since Fiato also claims that he was going to murder him in retaliation for assaulting Rizzitello – with the same .22 that had killed Bompensiero, no less. It also doesn’t seem likely that 70-something year old Lo Cicero, the family’s consigliere by that point (who also had a pacemaker), was going to be getting into fights with associates.

One of the most believable things Anthony says about him was that he was friendly with Los Angeles associate John DiMattia, who also was involved in financial scams. Apparently DiMattia owed Catain money and was ducking his payments by avoiding him entirely, even during collection/extortion attempts.

Hope this info is helpful, Catain is a fairly obscure figure.

He was involved in the the steel / aluminum industry with Cleveland based Rusco Industries, Inc. Outside of Los Angeles he had some organized crime connections in Philly through Frank Sindone as well and had been seen meeting with Sindone and boss Angelo Bruno in Los Angeles during the mid 70s. He also had connections in Chicago through Jackie Cerone.

Like Joe said definitely an obscure Los Angeles player, but nonetheless very a very interesting one.

“Catain” was a Chicagoan who moved to CA. I’ve been working on his story for a minute and there was a lot more to it than people realize. I’m actually in the middle of a piece on Catain at the moment, so stay tuned.
