When Albert Anastasia was killed in 1957, he was Anastasia’s Consigliere. Is it known when he was named such?
Likewise, is it known approximately when Carlo became a Capo in the Family?
A report I am reading says that when Mangano was killed in 1951, Philip Mangano went to Carlo and asked for his help to locate his brother. He also said if his brother wasn’t found in 24 hours, he would kill Anastasia. Carlo “realized Philip was out of his head.” And reported this to Anastasia, who then had Philip killed. The report says this cemented a close relationship between the two

Re: Q. About Carlo Gambino’s rise
He likely became a capo after JOSEPH CASTELLANO died in May 1946.
As for the consigliere role, I’ve heard 1953. I think he replaced FRANK SCALICE who was moved to underboss. I’m not super sure about this.
This is a pretty crazy story, but I buy it. Gambino/Scalice/Conte all held admin positions during Anastasia’s reign so it would make sense if they backed his takeover.
