What was the exact comments? Tried searching his only court documents I saw online and couldn't find them.
It was a wiretap I believe. George A has mentioned it a few times when talking about Pungitore.Said his dream was to buy a bunch of real estate and flip houses. Ended up doing it once he got out.

Sebastiano Saracino, who flipped in 2010, never really wanted to be made and lived out in California.

Joe N. Gallo didnt seem to be ashamed, but rather jaded and disillusioned, about it toward the end of his life. “It’s all turning to shit” to Paul; and his candid comments to the Feds - he didn’t even bother to pretend he wasn’t a gangster. His son languishing in jail and him worried about him being raped.

He seemed just sad about it all, at the end. How it had turnt out.

I think he had a lot of unspoken regrets, not the extent that he would’ve flipped - but a “did any of this matter?”

The man went from being an expert hitman, to a Captain at a relatively young age, to Consigliere for three Bosses. Almost making Boss himself.

And he seemed absolutely disillusioned at the end. A sadness comes off him in both the written word we have, and the photos.

It’s all turning to shit, isn’t it? I mean, you spend your life working on this thing, this thing of ours. You think you’re doing right. Then something happens, something goes off track, you get old, it don’t look like how it used to look. Disappointed. You end up disappointed. And the bitch of it is, you can’t put your finger on what went wrong. You’re doing good, you’re doing good, you’re doing good. But somehow, the way it all adds up, you ain’t done shit. It all ends up small. It all ends up sour.” - Joe N. Gallo, in conversation with Paul Castellano 1983

What’s interesting about that Gallo quote is that it was from 1983. I feel like a lot of wiseguys and mob historians would still consider the early 80s to be a good time to be in the life. I wonder if he saw the writing on the wall or if he was like everyone else that’s 65+ and was going on a “kids these days” rant.

Tommy Gioeli/Dino Calabro. Gioeli was acting boss by this point and Calabro a newly-promoted captain.

Had to have been Tommy Shots or Dino Calabro who was their cousin.

Context was, his son was in state prison. He was worried about his son being up there and being raped. Tommy Agro had told Gallo that Joe Dogs Iannuzzi had a guard on his payroll who could effect prison transfers for money. He wanted his son moved to a safer facility. What they didn’t know was Ianuzzi had flipped. He snitched on Agro and Gallo. This is part of what sent both guys to prison for life in 1987. He also tried to do this bribe behind Paul’s back because he knew Paul would say no, and Agro told Paul and Gallo was called to the carpet for it.
