We almost never talk about when Peter Gotti because boss because it laughable but
Who did he but in as his administration during that time ?
How many ceremonies Were conducted under him?
Just wonder a lot about during that time .... because yes The family was getting hit left and right with the Sammy indictments and the other guys after him flipping. But there was still a bunch of powerhouse still around during that time.... We hear a lot of Nicky Corozzo was about to take leadership but then he got arrested.
Can’t really see Peter having a sit down with Westside /Chins Acting Boss and Joe Massino etc ..etc....

Peter was there for the 2000 meeting, along with Massino, Larry Dentico, Louis Daidone, and Joel Cacace.Mikeymike12 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 10:04 pmCan’t really see Peter having a sit down with Westside /Chins Acting Boss and Joe Massino etc ..etc....

Yes. And as I understand it, we also landed on the moon.
(I kid...I kid)
Vitale was also there and he testified about it. Later Massino, who chaired the meet, testified about it as well. Capeci and others have written about it.Would you mind directing me to something I can read on this?

He's referring to Massino stating he really didn't consider the 2000 meet a true Commission meeting, the last one being prior to the Commission case in Massino's opinion. Which leads into a debate about what constitutes a Commission meeting.

Sorry lol - not trying to open up that debate again, but I'm kinda bored so I figured I'd ask. The last meeting to take place prior to the Commission case, were any of the attendees in acting positions? Not including Salerno for technicality and intents/purposes. It was all actual sitting bosses and the guys who brought them there basically, right?
The 2000 meeting was just reps from the families in various positions. Maybe Massino felt that a Commission meeting was for sitting admin members, not acting, and definitely not captains speaking on behalf of their family . I'm sure that was already said in the debate thread, I forget - but that (obvious) thought just popped into my head now

Re: We almost never talk about when Peter Gotti because boss because it laughable but
Back on topic, I always suspected the whole Peter Gotti being a retarded patsy thing was overblown . Sure, he wasn't known as a Gangster's Gangster, and obviously was put into position by way of nepotism. But I doubt he was a total pussy or as dumb as people make him out to be. The Gottis in general, despite being big fans of Niccolo's "The Prince", probably all had the reading comprehension of a 12 year old and were very rough around the edges, but still.
The guy was a boss for christs sakes. The boss. He made rulings/decisions as a boss and if anyone from another family had something going on with the Gambinos that escalated to a higher level, they had to meet with Peter or whoever Peter decided to send. Maybe some guys in his own family kept their distance from him, but if he ordered something, people had to do it. Guys talked behind his back and joked about him? Probably - but they did the same thing for Castellano, Chin, etc.

Re: We almost never talk about when Peter Gotti because boss because it laughable but
I don't recall what his criteria was, if he ever mentioned it. Maybe it was only official admin members. Maybe all 5 actual bosses, i.e. whenever Castellano, Salerno, Corallo, Persico, and Rastelli met last. But that's where people will go further into the debate and was it a real Commission meeting since it was only NY families? I personally think so because, by the 1980s, the Commission was essentially a NY enterprise anyway.newera_212 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 10:46 amSorry lol - not trying to open up that debate again, but I'm kinda bored so I figured I'd ask. Pogo has pointed out before how Peter was never caught talking on tape. I think people also see the fact that he would never have risen close to that position without being John's brother.newera_212 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 10:55 am Back on topic, I always suspected the whole Peter Gotti being a retarded patsy thing was overblown . Interesting that he never got caught on tape. Obviously Pete became boss through nepotism…but how many other guys did? I feel like it’s a bit overblown. Couldn’t you the say the same thing for Castellano? He was obviously much more financially successful, but would he have definitely become boss without Carlo?
Not to mention that when comparing Pete Gotti and Paul Castellano…only one of those two got caught on tape by the government (obviously that’s a very narrow comparison between the two of them)

Appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions, thanks. Let's not start what constitutes a commission mtg as the academic contingent will start shooting lol.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 10:11 amYes. And as I understand it, we also landed on the moon.
