Your thinking of Anthony LaPiana the reputed Detroit underbossnewera_212 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 10:05 pmWas just reading over the thread and was about to ask about Detroit... not about the old timers, but about the member (not sure if he was made or an associate, or how any of that even works up there) who sold this insurance or healthcare type of company about 10-12 years ago for serious money. I tried a quick half hearted google search and didn't get far, but the news about this was posted on here or RD back when it happened. If I recall correctly, and a lot of the time I don't lol, the number was ridiculous...like a MLB 2022 free agency type of numberChicagoOutfit wrote: ↑Sat Feb 25, 2023 6:57 am Any insights into the Detroit Family? I know I’ve read about some key guys Tocco or Zerelli selling real estate for substantial amounts, and buying/selling a country club(?).
Anyone remember who this was?

Maybe he was very smart and helped the Genovese EARN that much but his family was left impecunious.

First of all, your response is uncalled for. If you believe his family, I have a snowman to sell you. The Feds believe that millions upon millions was overseas. Regardless if he was an associate, he was as important or more than most Italians in the history of OC. Sending money overseas to avoid the Feds was a common practice.CornerBoy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 6:28 amthen where the fuck did it go?JCB1977 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 25, 2023 7:39 am Meyer Lansky had a net worth equal to $600 million dollars at the time of his death, after adjusting for inflation. Here is an example of a smaller crime family having a finance expert wash obscene amounts of money over to Luxembourg, Switzerland and other areas of the world. Vic Calautti from Youngstown handled transactions for Philadelphia mob members, Scranton, Pittsburgh and Youngstown.

Did you personally know Vic? I met him through Popeye Stevens, a local big time BM who "enjoyed" Youngstown's biggest bettors.

Thank you - exactly what I was looking for. Salute to him, whether he actually helped build that company up or simply spent the right money at the right time when he put it together back in the day, that's one of the craziest examples of a LCN guy hitting it big in the modern era. The guy should be about 80 or 81 about now per that article... his family, family's family, and so on, should be set for a very long time to comeDr031718 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 4:40 am Sorry forgot to post a link

No. Didn't know Vic personally but I didn't need to know him personally to know that he was President of National Builder's Corp. In the 70's, the old man on Medford instructed him to give my Mom a car for free from his dealership. He danced to the old man's tune. Popeye and my grandpa traveled together frequently. He helped me out of a jam with Judge Emrich in the mid 90's.FriendofHenry wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 12:44 pmYeah, that's a good "get"! I forgot about him being involved with National Builders Corp. Joe Francolino of the Gambinos was another guy that comes to mind that I remember reading left a LOT of money.
