Will wait for confirmation, but I know he was quite a heavy fellow. Have to believe it could have been a heart issue.

I read 400+ pounds at one point? He was on a chart as acting boss wasn't he in the late 90's?

According to law enforcement authorities John Riggi, boss of the DeCavalcante Family, created Local 1030 to represent asbestos workers within the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA). Members of the asbestos union had to be licensed. They attended a school created by Riggi ostensibly to learn how to detect and remove asbestos. Anthony Capo testified he slept during school and had the school’s operator, Manny Riggi, the son of John Riggi, take the test for him. Capo subsequently received his asbestos removal license. When questioned by a federal prosecutor about his knowledge of asbestos, Capo stated, “I wouldn’t know it [asbestos] if I was sitting on it.”

He was on a ruling panel in 1990 and briefly a co-street Boss in in the early 2000s. He was also a Capo for most of the 80s.

Yes he was in the 90s. His brothers were also shelved. Not sure why.

I heard Manny wasnt cut from the same cloth as his dad in things I have read. Maybe his dad was displeased in his handling of everything with him in the can. Riggi was still firmly in control so nobody was shelving the kids but him.

One of the reasons why John Jr. could have been shelved was that he divorced his wife. According to one of the informants the Sicilians looked down on it.
