I have to explain this to people (non-Chicagoans) all the time, because people elsewhere have really been led to believe that “Chicago-style pizza” = deep dish. So you always see these things on TV or the internet asking people if they prefer “NY-style pizza” or “Chicago-style” pizza, but they actually mean typical NYC thin crust vs Chicago deep dish, which is like comparing apples to oranges. In Chicago, “pizza” = thin crust “tavern style”, which is the default pizza. When Chicagoans refer to deep dish they call it “deep dish”.
I'm at ReNapoli now. Ordering my food to go 3 roast beef sandwiches and a large pie for my kids.
But I was told the owners are not from Chicago from an employee.
Ahhh. Ok. Odd, wonder if they have some familial connection as typically places like that outside of Chicago are run by Chicago transplants.

Is the pizza "Chicago style" or like traditional Napolitana?

The place when I googled it some stuff came up. Possibly connected to some people.
I'll let you know how the food is and after that I'll stop hijacking this thread. Sorry everyone. I always had a genuine desire to try authentic chicago style food

Looks like the DiFabios one several other restaurants in Westchester/CT. For all we know, maybe they’re connected to guys in the NYC-Chicago network and that’s why they decided to sell beef sandwiches in Old Greenwich, of all places haha.

They made me the wrong pizza. I was the only one who ordered at that time. They put sausage in my beef sandwiches. Is that a thing? Because I didn't like it. Once I took the sausage out it was a little better. But I wasn't all that impressed tbh. It was to go and I didn't have time to have them make me another one. The employee said he was from Kosovo and rhe owners were not from Chicago. Idk if I took his word for it but that's what he said

Sausage is a thing but you have to order that special and it’s called an “Italian combo”.

I’ll still try it as I’ve been meaning to, but especially if they’re not from Chicago I don’t have high hopes that their beef sandwiches are going to hit the mark.

Probably no one, sometimes guys will talk like that in case someone is listening who isn’t supposed to be. They think they’re being slick.

I ordered a traditional a "cheef" and an "combo italian" I didn't like it. It's Greenwich so it's like 80 bucks for a large pie and 3 roast beef sandwiches. But it wasn't worth the price imo. I can never get nothing good chicago. I'm bad luck I guess

You have to go to Chicago. Johnny’s, Buona Beef, Al’s, Fontano’s etc. I’d think that the only safe bet for one outside of Chicago would be a Portillo’s as they’re a Chicago chain and probably bring all their products in from Chicago.

I was wary when I saw that ReNapoli calls it a “cheef” (it’s supposed to be a “cheesy beef”). Small quibble but if they don’t know the lingo what else are they going to cut corners on? I also have a hard time believing they use anything close to the right bread, which is very particular (in Chicago it has to be a high gluten bread from specific bakeries, so that it holds up under the gravy assault. This gives it a very distinctive, chewy texture).

If your beef didn’t look something like these below, it ain’t the real deal. The best is if you’re in Chicago in late summer and Melrose Peppers are in season and the beef stand has them. Intensely flavorful little Italian sweet peppers grown locally in Melrose Park and other Italian suburbs for generations (the legend is that they grew wild on the slopes of Monte Vesuvio and some guy gathered the seeds to bring with him before he emigrated to Chicago). I grow them in my garden here in the Bx as a reminder of home. Melrose Peppers, hot giardinier’, and swimming in gravy.

To be honest if I was in my 60’s I would beef over her too. She’s a smoke show and was absolutely gorgeous back in the day.
