Giuseppe Castellano

Post by Nasabeak »

Question, I’ve heard Giuseppe Castellano (father of Paul) served as a Capo.

If so, from what dates was he Capo around, and who was in his crew?

And besides he and Frank Castellana, where there other Castellanos and Gambinos in that family circa 1930s - 1956? Besides Carlo and his brothers and Paul.

Carlo Gambino was probably in his crew as he succeeded him. HK had a report that said Carlo took over when Joe died in the 1930s but he actually died in the 1940s so either he stepped down or Gambino didn't succeed him until later.

Paolo Gambino wasn't made at the time he was shot during the Castellammarese War but I'd guess he was brought in before the books closed at the end of 31. Carlo's brother Joe Gambino was a member by the 1950s if not earlier. There was a younger more distant relative Giuseppe "Joe from the Bronx" Gambino who was made by the 1950s too.

Frank Castellana ran a different crew but maybe it split off. Frank's son Pete was made by the 1950s and his son-in-law Eustachio "Leo" Giammona was later made with the Luccheses.

Benny and Costantino Castellano were also members. Costantino went overseas in 1937 with Joe Castellano, Carlo Gambino's wife & children, and another Joe Castellana who might be Frank's brother, not sure. Wouldn't be surprised if Joe Castellana was a member.

Seems to me the Gambinos and Castellanos (with their relatives the Massottos) were a powerhouse faction in the Mangano Family way before 1957.

So you had around 57 Carlo as Consigliere, Frank Castellana as a Capo with Paul as Acting Capo, Joe Gambino as a Soldier, some of Frank’s children and the other Joe CastellNa, plus the Massottos with their crew(s), and the Guglielminis who were also relatives of the Gambinos

What a formidable faction.

Oh yeah long before Mangano. They were D'Aquila loyalists in the 1920s.
