Joseph DeFede was the Acting Boss from 1994/5 until his imprisonment in 1998.First met Vic Amuso as a teenager but Vic would then reignite the friendship when he put him on record and inducted him in 1989.DeFede would visit Vic in prison and receive advice and instruction on how to run the family.
He made money through loansharking,gambling and extortion in the garment centre.He was a Colombo Family associate for 20 years up until Vic took him.DeFede used to have a hot dog wagon with him in which he ran a bookies operation
Only received a position because of his friendship with Amuso.He didn’t participate in murder.
He flipped in 2002 because he was caught skimming and Vic wanted him dead because of that.DeFede testified against Louie Bagels Daidone and then passed away in Witsec in 2012

His son was an associate who owned Palmer’s Steakhouse on Cross Bay Blvd which was a popular Lucchese family hangout.

There is a couple of Gangland articles about him.I have posted what has generally been said about him on Reddit.Pennisi made a video about him in which he talks about his reign and confirms that DeFede was skimming.A couple of NY post articles mention him but there is no enough information out there about him.
I think he’s interesting and would like to know more about him.His 302s would definitely be interesting to see.

I wonder who on the street would have hit defede when he got out around 2003. He flipped a few years into a 5yr bid he starts around 99. He couldn't have just fled to Florida or ask for the shelf. No one would have chased him to Florida I think. His punishment would have been exile

I spend one week a month on an island that is well known for being "tax friendly" and this woman was a tourist and asked me for directions
