I suspect Leo Carlino was connected to Pueblo given his name and membership in that crew. The Caruso crew was very connected to Pueblo, as Joe Colletti's cousin Jim Colletti was first a Bonanno member who hung out at Caruso's Manhattan Social Club then became Pueblo boss. Caruso and Salvo continued to have a relationship to Colletti after he moved. Salvo was an Agrigentino born in Southern Illinois near Springfield.

The Colletti-Caruso-Salvo crew is very mysterious. I hope JD does his part 2 that he mentioned as he identified some other Agrigento guys who were probably with that group. Sam DeCavalcante makes reference to one of those guys' younger relatives being the godson of Angelo Caruso on one of the tapes.

That crew was also connected to Marlboro NY which I wrote about in my Ciro Gallo article. I'm curious if Gallo was affiliated with that crew when he returned to the Bonannos as his hometown of Palazzo Adriano was part of the same network as Burgio and Lucca Sicula and I found many potential connections. An unidentified Bonanno figure "sponsored" Gallo's transfer to the Bonannos and I wonder if it was Caruso as he was said to facilitate Sicilian immigrants joining the Bonanno fold so he may have played a role in some of these processes. For example he likely helped Salvo's nephew Nino Busciglio transfer from the Sicilian mafia to the Bonannos.

Scarpa deliberately gave disinformation to deflect blame from himself. he would kill someone and say "it was joe" or "i heard it was gambinos". He lied a lot.

Bill Bonanno was proven to be a liar 100 x's over just on here!

100% lie by omission

Hello to everyone and all the new faces. There's a couple guys here who already know who I'm going to name. It's good to see all the regular dudes still posting and the board is just as interesting a read as ever.

Discredited Confidential Informants. When it comes to destroying one's credibility, I've got to hand it to the FBI Mob Squad of the Southern District of NY, along with fired federal prosecutor Preet Bharara and the ultimate disgrace of CWs.....pedophile Charlie Hughes of Lyndhurst, NJ. They caught this scumbag trying to have sex with an underage child at a Westchester no-tell motel during one of the FBIs sting operations. He sat in the holding tank at Valhalla, White Plains for 2 days before faking chest pains then telling the feds he was in the garbage business and could make cases for them. And these idiots let him go wearing a wire for 4 years. He's not required to register under Megan's Law, his files have been illegally sealed by Judge Karas, even though multiple FOIA requests were sent by the attorneys for Gangland, deadline after deadline have passed with those files remaining sealed by that judge.

32 individuals faced maximum charges ranging from minimum 5 years up to life in prison (90 years for the lead defendant). The most anyone did was 18 months. Most of us much less, when it was finally outed that the FBIs only witness was a captured pedophile that they chose to unleash onto the public to do as he pleased, unpunished to this day.
Thank God for the attorneys for Scott Fappiano and Tony Bazzinni. They're the ones who demanded the discovery and the feds couldn't hide their secret anymore. 12 of the 32 defendants had their charges completely dropped, as the feds watched their biggest mass arrest mob case of 2013 crumble to pieces right before their eyes.
It was described as the biggest embarrassment of the Southern District of NY at the time. Kinda makes me sick if I dwell on it too much. But when you think about it. The feds would've done better with a mass murderer before they'd put even a single guy away by using a chomo as their key witness...so why'd they even try? Did they think no one would find out? That's what really disgusts me, and I had to raise 3 kids and teach them to respect law enforcement and those in charge of the law. Despite what they did.

Thanks for reading my rant, if you made it this far, but the subject of Discredited informants caught my eye and i just couldnt pass up the opportunity to let new people here know what complete scum the feds are. Sorry if anyone considers me a mob fanboy for saying that. Because I am anything but. You guys are a wonderful group of people and I enjoy stopping by from time to time and catching up on the latest craziness surrounding the mob, and to be honest, I'm hoping one day I log in here and see a news report or Gangland report that Judge Karas has finally unsealed the records regarding this piece of sh*t pedophile. Because when he does, I'm getting those files and starting a YouTube channel to expose what Preet, his underlings and that Judge did back in 2008 thru 2013 and right up to today. They better hope I die before the files get unsealed.

Forgive me since I'm not familiar with the case or Charlie Hughes but how is he discredited? I read an article quickly about it that mostly quoted Capeci's Gangland regarding it and the plea deals offered seemed to be because the feds and prosecutors didn't want the black eye of the public finding out they offered a pedo a clean slate for their case.

I'm not sure what he told the feds, if anything, and if he did was it proven to be bullshit. The tapes he recorded of mob guys are real right? I wouldn't considered him a discredited CW just because of his past crimes no matter how disgusting they are.

Like I said I know nothing of him or the case so if I'm wrong my bad but I'm not sure he really fits the bill for this.

Slightly different situation but Colombo member Reynold Marangi discredited himself as informant by warning his targets that he was wearing a wire. He lost his deal as a result.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

After reading those trial transcripts between Massino and Basciano, they sound like they are so close. I don't understand how Massino could agree to wear a wire and do all that stuff to hdll put away Basciano.
Maybe I'm naive because of my time in the military and the comardie that I had with a handful of other guys in war. But I just don't understand it.

He actually got off really good at sentencing, and he probably wouldn’t have wanted WitSec anyways. Most of those Colombo guys live openly in the same town in Florida. Larry Mazza, Tommy McLaughlin, Frank Pontillo, etc. I don’t know if Anthony Russo lives in the same place but he’s been photographed with them. Must have been awkward meeting McLaughlin again after McLaughlin was the one who wore a wire on him and got him pinched for murder.

Another rat that comes to mind is Anthony Basile. His information literally created the case against Gioeli and Co. for the Marasa murder, even though Basile wasn’t even there. Basile even fingered Calabro for a murder he didn’t even commit, to deflect from his own role in the crime (the accidental shooting of Hector Pagan). Shortly after the 2008 indictment, Basile was dropped as a potential witness from the case.

What’s crazy is that, if Competiello held out for a few more months, Gioeli, Calabro, Competiello and Saracino would have beat the case easily: without Basile, the government literally had nothing else supporting their case. And at that time, the government still didn’t know about the crew’s role in the cop-killing, the Cutolo hit, the Miccio hit, the Gargano hit or even the Greaves hit.

Another rat that comes to mind is John Pate. IIRC, he went insane in prison, I read something like he was throwing excrement or something like that. Either way, he couldnt testify either. Perhaps why the family allowed Robert Pate to see him with no consequences.

William Cutolo Jr., the one-man mob crusader who voluntarily went undercover to avenge his slain father, was also dropped by the government due to mental health issues. He wasn’t allowed to testify against his fathers killers.
I don't know dick about dick.

Wow - good stuff. I had no idea that Competiello was the one who unleashed everything, and had no idea the government wasn't close on the Dols hit. So it was Competiello first, and then Calabro followed?

Didn't Competiello put himself in a murder that the other participants who flipped (Calabro and at least 1 other...) claimed he had nothing to do with? Competiello said he was there and admitted to it, but the others said he wasn't?

Those guys were involved with a ridiculous amount of high profile Brooklyn murders over a 10 year span at least. Could only imagine the Feds faces during the debriefings hearing about Gargano, Dols, Cutolo, etc.

Wonder where Competiello is living these days. Not sure if he is there any more but I believe Calabro was living 'openly' in Naples, FL after he did whatever he had to do with court and serving time. Him and his wife's name were found on property records in Naples and it wasn't a purchase of his from a past life (the house wasn't even built when he was on the street I believe) . Always wondered how those two would do on the podcast circuit telling their stories. Not sure I'd like to hear anything that depraved though

But Billy Jr was right across from Jackie DeRoss' fruit stand with a gun but he just couldn't do it...Bullshit, you are a rat Billy...you father would've been ashamed...he knew the life and what came with it...clipped or not, Wild Bill wouldn't have condoned his son snitching on his killers...

What was the extent of Mild Bill Cutolo's cooperation? His motive was to go after everyone involved with his Dad's murder, but was he ever close enough with those guys beyond knowing them in the civilian and family friend sense to even hurt them?

I can't imagine he had any insight into the workings of Allie Persico and John DeRoss' operations and schemes. Doubt he ever came close to getting one of those guys on tape putting themselves anywhere near his father's murder, too. I'd love to know how useful he could have been, because from the outside looking in, the guy who washed pots & pans at DeRoss' social club would have been just as important of a CI as Mild Bill. The only thing he "had" was DeRoss coming over to the house looking for money when Cutolo Sr. was still considered alive but missing. What the hell does that prove?

Cutolo Junior shouldn't even be considered a cooperator - he didn't really do anything (would be happy to be proven wrong by someone who knows more about Cutolo and the Colombos...maybe Mild Bill did get someone jammed up?) and IIRC it's not like he was under indictment or in trouble himself. He tried to play secret agent man and the Feds cut their losses and sent him on his way, after wasting the Feds time and money

Cutolo Jr. caught Jackie DeRoss on tape various times. So that’s something. And he was definitely fishing for information, so I think he was treated as a real FBI asset while he was on the streets.

Re. Competiello: I think what you’re referring to is the Marasa hit. Competiello was initially only charged with one murder (IIRC): the Marasa hit, which he didn’t commit and wasn’t there for. It was only Basile who placed him at the scene of the hit, and it was that one charge that induced Competiello to flip. Kind of crazy.

What’s interesting is that Competiello was always one of the most loyal members of the Bay Parkway Boys. Some examples:
- Taking the rap for Frank Saracino in the ‘90s for an assault he didn’t commit, causing Caves to miss the birth of his first daughter.
- Visiting Michael Burnside’s house before the crew was scheduled to hit Burnside. He told Burnside not to leave his house that day, because Competiello didn’t want to have to kill him.
- When Competiello was ordered to murder Joe Miccio, his chop-shop partner, he did so the very next day.
- Prior to their indictment, Competiello offered to step forward and plead guilty to the Marasa murder so Gioeli and Calabro would go free.

And then, after he’s arrested for a murder he didn’t even commit, he caves almost immediately. I think a big part of his cooperation is a little known fact about Competiello’s personal life: according to him, his wife had no idea he was even in the Mafia. So when he was indicted, that alone must have been tough for their family. It wasn’t like Gioeli’s wife or Calabro’s, who worked together in those early days after the indictment to conceal evidence and create alibis. Instead, Competiello was on the phone with his wife trying to convince her he wasn’t guilty.

Calabro, more so than Competiello, apparently found it very difficult in prison, especially because he was isolated from his codefendants (whereas Gioeli and Saracino, for whatever reason, weren’t). Calabro first met with federal prosecutors in January 2009 because he was worried about the prospect of the death penalty, but was left for a year in limbo as prosecutors decided what to do with him.
I don't know dick about dick.
