The Mafia and Terrorism

Is it just me that thinks the mob is growing again thanks to the terrorism problem? As long as the government concentrates on terrorists they will grow and grow and grow again.

I would say as a whole they are weakening.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

In America the Cosa Nostra definitely lowered its violence compared to its "golden age", although they still probably make much money.

That's been the theory floated since at least the Five Families book came out. The resources against the NY mob have been significantly reduced and a recent article quoted the FBI as saying the NY families are stronger than they have been in years. On the flip side, they don't need the same resources they did to fight the mob decades ago. And there's been ongoing cases over the past 15 years despite the reductions. The families are the same size as they have been for years, being able to maintain their totals, but not getting bigger. In my opinion, they may be as strong or stronger than they were in the early 2000's but not before. In the mid-late 1990's the government was still trying to get the mob out of the food markets, Javits Center, waste hauling, etc.
All roads lead to New York.
