Luigi Manochhio

Post by JCB1977 »

Well into his 90’s, does anybody know if he’s in Florida or back in Providence?

According to this article https://gangsterreport.com/once-upon-a- ... land-lore/ Manocchio is 95 and splits his time between Rhode Island and Florida. Interestingly he was described as a underboss to Salemme. What does an underboss do?

Amazing these guys travel back and forth between the north and Florida even though they're pushing 100. My grandmother is 96 and she never leaves her house.

It is crazy. all these people with less stressful lives dying between 50 and 70 and a lot of these mobsters are 70 80 or 90 and still active. Maybe the mob is the fountain of youth for some lol

It's really really common too. There are tons of guys like that. Might have something to do with that occult blood ritual thing they do when made, being an active gangster over 85 is some serious vampire shit.

Funny thing is, I once read a report by some Italian physicians who performed autopsies on a bunch of murdered mafiosi. All of them apparently looked like guys decades older in terms of cardiovascular health profile. The inference was that the stress of the life was essentially eating them alive inside. In modern times, at least, things are a bit rougher in Italy, of course, so maybe the American guys are different.

Should be pretty straightforward to test the hypothesis empirically. Look at all the American mafiosi who died of natural causes and compare to population average life expectancy for males of their age cohort, adjusted for secular trend in life expectancy perhaps. Pogo should have the dataset if anyone is interested in running the analysis.

I wonder how much of potential longevity they may have is tied to how active their brains are. Countless retirees just fall into dementia after they retire because they plop in front of the tv and just stop doing anything. These gangsters are probably always thinking of scores, who might be trying to screw them, how they may be being surveilled - it's a lot of brain activity (despite many low IQs with these guys) and it might keep them energized.

I used the 1985 Chicago list as a sample.

Average age at death: 76.5 years
American life expectancy for 1985: 74.56 years
Average age at death of members who served federal prison sentences after 1985: 80.31

Life expectancy also lowered by two murders (Spilotro, Fecarotta) and a suicide (Deangeles; terminally ill with cancer)

Five members died in prison (Lombardo, Calabrese, DiVarco, Infelise, Palermo). Their average ages were 81.4. Cerone died a week after his release (82y), so you could almost include him here, too.

The life and maintaining their status within it gives them purpose and sometimes a purpose is all you need to keep going.

I'm taking a guess and saying he's in a nursing home. He's like 97 he didn't have kids so unless he had a girlfriend that takes care of him he's in a home. Whoever said big cheese is in a home to that's a surprise he's like 62ish
