Awesome. Wasn't aware of the murder charge in Italy.

Phil Amari's brother was named Vincenzo and born in 1897 which is close to this guy's age. He died in Arizona, where Phil's Ribera Club affiliate and probable Chicago member Nicola Diana also moved in the 1940s. I have an FBI report from the 1970s that identifies a DeCavalcante member living in Arizona in the 1970s but the name is redacted -- Phil's brother was still alive then though I don't know when he moved there.

This guy might well be Phil's brother based on the WW2 card. If his father was named Giuseppe that'd be further indication. Could be a cousin too as Phil's grandfather was named Vincenzo so there may have been more than one in Phil's generation.

This is probably Phil’s brother.

He was born on Jan 5 1897 and died in 1990 in Sun City, AZ; a suburb of Phoenix.

I can’t tell when exactly he moved to AZ, but it was after 1950.

How certain are we about the LaSelvas (Avigliano, Potenza, Basilicata) as well as Antonio Staiti (Villa San Giovanni, RC, Calabria)?

I'm not playing Fantasy Family but these guys and their locations, one would think they were either Patriarca, Genovese or maybe Lucchese in Staiti's case. If there's a confirmed source identifying these guys as members of the DeCavs then its settled, if not, might warrant a reevaluation.

Where did Simone's father Francesco Rizzo DeCavalcante come from? His maternal side came from Palermo citta but had mainland roots.

Having a difficult time locating John LaMela's parents, he was born in Tampa after all. Did come across a passport in 1926, he was traveling with Salvatore Mendola and Ignazio Scaglione, Tampa born, visiting Italy on their back back. Both LaMela and Scaglione were going to New York indicating LaMela was there early one. There was also a Ciro Scozzari on his way to Tampa.

Here’s a transcript implying that LaSelva is in the DeCavalcante family. Sam is Sam DeCavalcante // Joe is Joe Zicarelli

Staiti was identified as a DeCavalcante member in the 1983 document but I haven’t seen much on him other than that.

Thank you for posting that.

I read it multiple times and I'd argue, from my own interpretation, that it's ambiguous and could maybe be argued that he's not. Sam states that Michael Puglia is a caporegime, he then lists off some names including LaSelva, "he's got a guy," but mentions that he's got another guy there, an old "amico nos." He only specifies Michael and the old amico nos as members. With the names in between it could be inferred that when he says "he's got a guy" he's using it in the organizational sense that these are members of his Family, or it could be in the operational/social sense that he knows people there or has connections that are useful.

Curious what others think. Not drawing a hardline on this, just my observation. This is like when Al Pacino sat in with a room full of literature enthusiasts arguing over what the lines in Shakespeare meant, it does feel like that here at times.

I have no basis to argue, I'm not going to downgrade him because he's Reggesi but to the contrary it does make him more interesting.

We know that members of the Genovese transferred to the DeCavs, we have Gens and Pats making members and transferring them.

My mind keeps going back to Costello and his alleged political maneuverings to have a Napolitan take over New England. That came out of left field and aside from that, we really only get Joe Bonanno's description of him as the head of the Liberal Faction on the commission. Beyond that it's the usual serving of political connections and national gambling, we don't really have much information on how he conducted himself as Representative of a Family. We've always, or least I always, got the sense that he was an absentee boss who left his captains to function as sub-bosses but I don't think we have anything to base that on. Valachi wasn't around him, he was from a different faction.

I'm wondering if perhaps Costello was making members & having them transfer to other families, specifically mainlanders? I wouldn't call this conspiratorial as much as it was political maneuverings. The ceremonies and transfers would had to have been "legally" recognized by the Commission/Families involved. He made Raymond Patriarca (Lazio) who then transferred to New England and ended up becoming the (close enough) Napolitan boss whom Costello was politically supporting.

Perhaps the Decavs took in more than just a few Gen transfers?

Here’s a wiretap transcript from May 8th 1963. Russo is Anthony “Little Pussy” Russo // De Carlo is Ray DeCarlo.

———-

- Joseph LaSelva is named as Nicky Delmore’s underboss in Connecticut

- They both acknowledge Majuri and Larasso so it wasn’t a confusion about his role.

- Joe LaSelva was 100% DeCavalcante. He was underboss at this time. Still not sure what to make of the "two underbosses" thing with Majuri even though that's referred to on the tapes. Only thing I can figure is maybe Majuri was acting underboss (he'd been a previous underboss demoted for infractions) given he was in NJ and LaSelva was in CT.

- Yep, you're correct that Riggi's mother's family was from Vallata. Says so in the Peterstown paper too. Vallata was the biggest Italian colony in Peterstown next to RIbera.

I've only found records saying Palermo. An Italian author said Monreale but it doesn't have a source and I've seen that said elsewhere but never been able to confirm. Def from Palermo area and his wife's family the Occhipintis were also Palermitan though they lived on the mainland for a while (his father-in-law was a doctor and Sam's son said like the Rizzo-DeCav side of the family the Occhipintis came from nobility/royalty).

- Tony Carubia's family was from Ribera but I'll see if I can find a record.

- JD found DiMaria's family was from Ribera and he spent time in Chicago.

- Farina was born in Caltabellotta. It's mentioned in a newspaper article but I'll have to dig it up.

- LaBarbera's family was from Alessandria della Rocca as was his wife's. Will try to find a record.

- A few years back I also found LaMela's family was from Alessandria. Again will try to find something.

I know you want these sourced so I will dig in when I can.
