Can’t remember if this has been talked about before, but are there any other examples of a single captain overseeing two crews?

Great breakdown, thanks so much.

That first meeting where Massino is complaining about the sneaker thing also led to one of the all time funniest pieces of dialogue in the history of the Bonanno family. Massino wasn’t eating any of the prison food and would only eat stuff like candy, chocolate, and granola bars. Stuff you’d get out of a vending machine. And it was leading to digestive issues.

Massino: I went to the bathroom 13 times yesterday.
Basciano: Jesus Christ.

Lol I dunno why but that totally cracks me up.

-" Massino asks why they didn’t chase him instead
BASCIANO: Joey C. Jo-, you want to know why? Because he’s a fuckin’ dangerous kid that don’t fuckin’ listen. He talks stupid. He talks like a fuckin’ jerkoff. He’s a fuckin’ – He just an annoying fuckin’ kid.
- At Basciano’s instruction, Cicale told Pinzolo he was chased and to go to Florida."

I've never heard "chase" or "chased" used before. I assume it's an order from the top down to tell some to go away/get lost? Anyone else seen this term before?

"Chased" is a common term. It's equivalent to shelving but for an associate. They're told to stay away from the Family and sometimes are even asked to leave the area.

Incredible thread, great work! It's hilarious to imagine Massino doing the retard impression and Vinnie's line about how they'd "only have 6 guys" is pure gold. Massino is a very shrewd operator and he was able to play Basciano perfectly.

I swear you just don't get quality like this from the other families. Pretty damn funny too.

I was always suprised that they didn't make guys on the shelf move out of the area also.

If a guy who's being chased has to sell his house and move, does he have to kick if his house made a profit?

After Massino flipped, the reputation of the family was in the gutter
I remember reading that on another of Chin’s many great posts
Joe C worked hard to rebuild that family’s relations with the other families.

Speaking of Amato, interesting how Massino fully trusted Baldo's judgment even over some of his top captains yet Amato was only ever capodecina for a week (when?). I mentioned it in another thread, but I spoke to a former Bonanno associate who knew Amato very well and he was of the opinion Amato may have been influencing Montagna's activities in Canada.
