Omaha is a place worth digging into in the future.

- The FBN had Benny Barone and the four Biase brothers as Omaha-born residents and there were ties among them to Chicago, New York, and Kansas City.

- Nick Civella of KC in particular had interests there represented by non-Italians. Informant said even if KC had interests in Omaha it fell under Chicago's authority/jurisdiction. Makes sense since they were the avugad.

- KC member Thomas Cacioppo was born in Omaha in 1913. Family from Sambuca and cousin of the KC Family Gureras.

- Lou Fratto told the FBI he himself was the only made member in Des Moines and Omaha. However...

- In a recording of Frank Balistrieri he talked about KC Family having a "piece" of Omaha and said Nick Civella had contact with "the old man" in Omaha. He also mentioned an unnamed member who went from California through Omaha.



^^^ The "old man" apparently had a message for Balistrieri he passed through Civella about Joe Gurera and Buster Balistrere (this is on the next page).

1931. This guy Teddy Balistreri was a former boxer in Brooklyn, born Antonino Balistreri in Menfi. I note that there were other Balistreris from Menfi in Omaha. Some reports in Omaha initially speculated that Balistreri had committed suicide, while others reported that Balistreri had recently arrived from BK with some other men to attempt to muscle in on local rackets in Omaha.

The FBN testified to Congress that the Chicago "Italian organization" was responsible for supplying the heroin market in a large swath of the US, including specifically cities such as Omaha. If Chicago had narcotics links to Omaha, that would presumably have been built off of broader connections, based on other racket operations and/or personal/paesani links.

I suspect I'm missing Lucchese names, otherwise the tally is 940.

It makes me think back to the SS informants in the 20's who stated the NY membership to be 3000 or Gentile's 2000 estimates in the 1920's. I doubt anyone was literally counting heads so their exaggerations were simply a way of saying alot. One Syrian Detroit informant who seemed to know the lay of the land estimated NY had 1500 members in the 1960s. The latter number seemed to be the most realistic and accepted by most but maybe the count was lower.

I am not under any illusion that we have each and every made member in 1963 on this chart but how many could have escaped scrutiny? 50, 100, 200? I have a hard time believing we have 500 unidentified strombergs to put us at the 1500 mark.

Fast forward to 2000, Michael Leonardo identified the Gambino cap at 260 if I recall correctly. Thanks to Pogo's records, he has 27 members being killed after 1963 before 2000 as well as three flips which- if we go by the rules- would mean the Gambinos lost 30 slots. This is an imperfect math with tons of variables but 304 and 290 (starting at 2002 caps and adding killed/flipped members) isn't that far off.
