It seems like the Sally Daz situation is more a reflection of the mob's reduced ability to engage in violence. Even if they did find out who was trying to kill him, what were they going to do? The Bonnanos wouldn't have much interest in killing one or two people, let alone potentially going to war. If they can't protect their associates from people who are willing to kill, then what do they really have left?

They could of put feelers out there and find out who was trying to kill him.Then most likely once they found out it was the son they could of told sally daz and the SD could of decided if he wanted his son whacked or if he was willing to let it go

99.9 percent of the time they kick up tribute to protect them from other mobsters from trying to shake them down or rob them. That tribute doesn't protect them from a rotten son whose secretly plotting to murder you. I find it very interesting Vinny gorgeous was thinking in the rite direction. It was almost so evil he couldn't put it together and the guys a murderer lol. He was there but couldn't put it together
