A Second Ontario Man Made by the Gambino's in California

I almost finished Anna Sergi's book, "Chasing the Mafia" and on page on 157 of the soft cover edition the following passage is written:

"Dom Violo stated that Joe Todaro was right; he should have been told that Iavarone and Caputo had been straightened out [allegedly in the Gambino family in Califronia], because it was in Todaro's area"

Now Iavarone has been discussed in the past before such as in Scott Bornstein's article, but Caputo is a new name that has not been mention before. No first name is given so who is he and what does that mean for LCN/ndrangheta between California, Gambino's, and Buffalo?

Wiseguy is then shown turning on his computer and reading news about the Los Angeles family's involvement in the Ontario mob war. He screams, "It is not possible!" as Tommy Gambino's face is superimposed on the screen. Gambino's mouth turns into an evil grin and the scene fades to black.

The movie wins an Oscar.

Does is actually say violo in the book, because that is an error. And not for nothing but In my opinion I would have to hear it from another source as wel just incase to fully believe it.

That's just a typo, the book says Violi. I'm also sceptical since this is the first time we're hearing about it. When Nicole O'Reilly first wrote about Iavarone being made there was no mention of a Caputo also being inducted. Nor did Scott's article from a few months ago.

We know Martino Caputo was connected to various mobsters from Toronto, Hamilton, and Niagara. Of course he was in jail by this time but I'm curious if maybe it was one of his brothers, if it wasn't any of the other various Caputos living in Ontario.

Unfortunately all it says in the citations is "Project Otremens, p. 15." Not sure how easy it would be to access those documents to double-check/verify for additional context.

Yeah Martino Caputo got a life sentence for the murder of Johnny Raposo that took place in 2012. His brother Paolo was killed in 2019, the wolfpack book said the Sinaloa Cartel killed him as a message to Martino for a shipment he ripped off also in 2012. The Wolfpack book also says Paolo wasn't a mobster. But he did move in those circles, often hosting Vito Rizzuto in his restaurant when he visited Ontario.

I emailed Anna Sergi on the topic and she gave me permission to post this for further clarification:

"As per your questions I cannot be sure unfortunately as the documents were as cryptic as intelligence can be. My understanding is that they are talking about the Gambinos from NY operating in California. The reason why I believe this is that the Caputo brothers (Martino and Paolo) were allegedly made and operational in NY (in addition to Canada) and we do know that almost for sure also from documents on the port of NY/NJ."
