USA Motion in Basciano Case

Re: USA Motion in Basciano Case
People don't remember but the Blue Thunder case was huge news at the time. It was thought to be a slam dunk case with tape recordings and rats placing him at the head of one of the biggest heroin conspiracy in New York. This was the 1990's, guys were being sent away left and right but he got acquitted. What were the odds? Ever since that acquittal, they've had it out for him.
Ben Brafman, who represented him on that case knew that after this the feds would be on his ass and told him "I am not certain you understand what has happened. You have been acquitted in a trial in federal court where you were facing life in prison, this stuff does not happen every day in this building. God smiled on you. Get ouf of this life, go away from New York, sell your stores and your buildings and go have life that is away from the Bronx. You don't have to be Vinny Gorgeous."
As far as murders if we are talking personally pulling the trigger and ordering hits it's in the dozens. Basciano was a drugs guy in the 1980's and 1990's, back then it was a war zone and you didn't last without having to clip a lot of people.

Geeze that alot of murder on his mind. I read the book on Basciano . He was a money maker. He sold drugs then invested in everything as he got older he seen the money in construction and he's a made guy so why not. He even would put on his boots and a hard hat. He just got caught up in murders and that was his downfall. Had he played it differently he'd probaly still be a boss and a multi millionaire

Does anyone know the back story when Bellomo approached Massino about killing Basciano?

Bellomo told Massino that Basciano was walking around like he was John Gotti. It seems Basciano was pissing the Genovese leaders off and they didnt like the way he conducted himself as a boss.PaddyWhack wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 7:41 am Does anyone know the back story when Bellomo approached Massino about killing Basciano?

Coppa is a mystery to me... the only crackhead I have ever seen to gain weight it's kind of like a Chinese ppl who own buffets aren't fat..headscratcherSonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 8:03 pm The buck had to stop somewhere.
And Massino made one of the worst decisions in LCN history.
Didnt clip Vitale.
Coppa was first, but Sal flipping was the domino effect and doomed Massino. Joe benching Vitale was his mistake. And he knew it.

Basciano should have taken Ben Brafman's advice - he didn't and thought he was smarter. He wasn't. As tough as he thinks he is in the can - I heard he is forced to do some maytaging for the Latin Kings.

Amen to this. The fact you can use ‘evidence’ of a crime that you haven’t been convicted of, let alone charged with is terrifying. The burden on the federal government is basically almost nonexistent compared to the state, coupled with the fact you can be charged and jailed for the same crime multiple times should be very scary for everyone. The general attitude is ‘well he probably did something at some point’ therefore the trial by avalanche is going to convict the vast majority of the time.Hired_Goonz wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 4:37 pm Great info. It's crazy to me that judges will sometimes allow the government to bring up crimes that you haven't been charged with let alone convicted of. "He murdered another guy too. No we never indicted him for it....but a guy we know says he overheard him talking about it in Blimpie's" lol can you imagine you're on trial for your life and they pull stuff like this. I say if a judge allows the government to present crimes you haven't been charged with, the defense should be allowed to make a presentation on past shenanigans and injustices committed by the government.

Yea this is always a head scratcher; especially when a guys in jail. He’s been alienated and now he’s looking at decades for an organization that doesn’t recognize or support him. I’d be curious to think what he thought would happen. Be pragmatic, support the guy or bury him but don’t leave the guy that knows your entire life story twisting in the wind. Not great managerial thinking here. I’m sure his being family clouded this process.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 8:03 pm The buck had to stop somewhere.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Totally. Guy was in supermax (where there zero prisoner interaction) until very recently but ‘he heard’.Newyorkempire wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 4:40 amI heard you talk about guys getting fucked in prison on Mafia boards because it turns you on.
