Frank Panessa a former DEA agent that helped to build the Pizza Connection case said that an informer told him that after Matthews kidnapped a genovese wiseguys because was rip off by an another wiseguy in a drug sale,the Genoveses was upset and killed Matthews and thwon the body in the ocean.

That’s interesting because as recently as 10 years ago, the Feds seemed to think he was still alive. One of Matthews biggest clients was big time Baltimore drug dealer Shorty Buise. Buise died in ‘13 and the Feds made an appearance at the funeral—either hoping to catch Matthews paying his respects, or to get info on his whereabouts. At the time they were still offering reward money for his capture.

Interesting article from 1989 that ties to Corralluzo to Dominic Cicale years later....was involved with Cicale in a killing....also gives some info on Cicale before he get involved with Basciano and was in prison during most of 90s

But in this instance with Mathews disappearing totally even the FBI thought he was in hiding. I mean, the Feds had a bounty on his head for the longest of time. I'm sure the FBI has a pretty good idea one way or the other. Too many snitches, too many mobsters on the federal payroll for them to not really know.
