I have one I will share…After I got out of work in Manhattan, I met my family and we were near Fresco by Scotto. We went there and guess who is there with his family…Anthony Scotto but here is the thing…This guy is quite tall and was quite old and he was wearing a JET BLACK PEACOAT WITH A 1950s Fedora and was like right out of The Godfather like imagine Vic Amuso when he first got elected as boss going around dressing up like Al darco said like real old school. This guy like stared me down as I was leaving when I was talking to the coat girl. I see him and know who he is and I just go “hey man, how’s it going?” (I didn’t go up to him he was walking by me or just standing there looking down at me I forget) And he says nothing…it was really funny even though he’s was retired and shelved at the time I believe.

I went to La Nova on my way to Toronto just because I thought it would be amusing to meet Todaro. He is funny and nice.

newera_212 wrote: Sat Jul 02, 2022 8:35 pm I've seen the guy John Ragano from the Bonnanos around in Queens a few times, wouldn't call it a "run in" really, but had a small talk / casual conversation that actually lasted a while, outside of the Esquire Diner, while we were both waiting for a table to open up. He was with an older guy who he was clearly deferential to, who seemed like a mean old bastard, and he introduced himself as Paul. Whoever this Paul was definitely had the juice between the two of them, or had the Ragano guy's respect and admiration at the very least.

Always wondered who that guy was, especially as more info came out about the HB/OZP Bonnanos about 2 years after this encounter, when Asaro (and Ragano) got indicted. Even when the younger faction of that crew went down in 2017... nothing. No info. Could have maybe been someone from another crew or another family all together, but it was clear Ragano (who was made) was deferential and overly respectful as hell toward this guy, which made me think the guy was made and then some, himself. Short old non descript looking guy, carried himself like a mean old fuck
Yeah bazoo is always around. Are you sure "paul" wasn't vinny asaro because he was known to love the esquire and the description fits. I can definitely see him giving you a fake name
I could see how you'd think that for sure. Esquire...mean old guy... It could be possible, but I'm almost positive it wasn't. I feel like I could recognize Asaro pretty easily. This guy looked older and shorter, believe it or not. No glasses. Didn't really look like Asaro from what I remember but I've only seen Asaro in pictures.

I wouldn’t call it a run it but I see jack Bonventre a few times a week outside his auto body shop. It pass by it in my way home from work and usually see him out front. Guy def works hard from what I can tell.
That’s the guy, Adriana. My Uncle Tony. The guy I’m going to hell for.

I met Sal Calautti a few months before he got whacked when the company I was working for had a job at a house next to a house he had just bought. We built a pool and did up the whole backyard and we actually went through his yard because it was easier. He wasn't living in the house yet (Avenue rd and 401 in Toronto) and it was really nice of him to let us do that as it made the job so much easier. It was all worked out between him and our clients but he happened to be at the house one day when I was there taking out a section of his fence so we could drive Bobcats etc in. He says to me "are you Italian?" because I'm half but have very strong Italian features and we ended up shooting the shit for a while. You couldn't ask for a nicer, more personable guy. A couple weeks later he showed up at the house and he sees me and says "hey paisan, how's the baby?" because I had mentioned to him that my son had just been born. Just a complete gentleman. Probably less than 2 months later he got smoked outside a stag in Vaughn. Our clients were completely shocked when we talked about it lol "he seemed like such a nice guy!" Well he was but he was also a stone killer.

so anyone else have any runs in similiar
Atleast we know now the guys a punk for pulling it and not using it.

Ruggiero jr got out in 2015. He was under Michael Paradiso then Ernie Grillo. Pennisi mentioned him being present with Grillo at a sit down with the Luccheses over a towing company.

Obviously writing about them, I've met a lot of those out of the life.
But have also run into guys Ive written about, esp in Tampa. Sometimes awkward, but always positive. And a couple of times it's even been "well let me tell you what really happened."

Of course if you're counting associates (associated bookmakers more precisely), then my grandfather.

This is kinda related but Pennisi has been adamant that guys in the life will check out blogs and websites that report about “the life”. He knew guys that would read Capeci. Id love to know who the wiseguys are that cruise the internet checking out what the public has to say. Like who is the highest ranking mobster to ever check out a message board or website.
