Both these guys had quite the reputation...and now they have to serve time for a chicken shit offense. Quite the fall from grace, eh?

Scott reporting Greg Costa bumped up to captain.

According to sources located in the North End, as Spagnolo prepares to leave town for prison, Fat Greg Costa is getting used to a new job and new responsibilities – Costa was allegedly upped to capo by DiNunzio at some point in the past six months, a decision signed off by Spagnolo and syndicate don Peter (The Crazy Horse) Limone, an octogenarian gangster currently in semiretirement. Costa rose through the ranks of the mob as DiNunzio’s driver, bodyguard and top collector. The pair went down together in a federal racketeering case in the mid-2000s. DiNunzio, 58, got out of prison earlier this year.

The 46-year old Costa took fed pinches in 2002 and 2006. Patriarca button men were caught discussing Costa’s strong arm antics on FBI audio surveillance in 2001, one referring to him as a “loose cannon” and questioning why DiNunzio allows him to act the way he does. Multiple sources say Spagnolo was initially reluctant to clear the choice of Costa as a new skipper and wanted to wait until DiNunzio got out of the can before the promotion was made.

“Carmen has wanted to give that spot to Greg for a while now, at least back as far as the last couple years of the bid he just did,” one GR source explained. “Greg’s a tough guy, he rubs some people the wrong way. But he’s Carmen’s guy and Carmen trusts him like a son. That goes a long way in this line of business.”

In the government's defense, they have to allocate certain resources to LCN until they are told not to. They've already reduced their staff dedicated to LCN by 75%. They can't "just allow it to go on" whether it's a couple of old timers or not. If they ignore LCN, LCN will continue to spread out. Regardless, no matter what, whether it's NY or Chicago, it'll never be the same...ever. No more waves of Italian immigrants flooding America and there is a lot more opportunity today to make money legitimately to even consider LCN.

One major reason its not the same is because of no mafia mentality in the general population. Its a difficult thing to describe but unless you see it you cannot really understand it. Mafia mentality doesnt have to do with crime all that much. It happens in everyday things.

-your sons makes an application for a job but his qualification is not enough so you need connection to recommend him
-your baby is ill and you have to go to hospital but you don't go immediately instead you try to find the name of a senior doctor there to make your case more powerfully
-you have to wait in line in a government office - ticket 950 is issued but the number shows ticket 37 is being called instead of going away and returning you look around and see a guy you got introduced to few years ago and you tell him "do you remember..." and he either plays the "hello how are you" game or he asks you what do you want and in the end he tells you how to jump to the front of the line now.

You see these examples don't have anything to do with Cosa Nostra and in most parts of the world people do these things through personal connections but Cosa Nostra managed to insert itself in society so people approach Cosa Nostra for these things. The reason why people do these things is because nobody trusts anybody to do anything properly or with trust. Even Buscetta realised this when he said he knew in 1948 there's no use for Cosa Nostra and people can deal with everyday things alone. Its also why when they asked him about how many mafiosi he said better to ask who doesn't have a mafia mentality.

When the society has a mafia mentality and it has mafia type groups already they get stronger because the people start to depend on them for everyday things. It also leads to mafia groups having a much wider scope for recruitment and leads to even professional people joining. Without mafia mentality or when it is reduced then Cosa Nostra eventually recruits only from criminals and most of them are stupid.

Yeah I saw today that Louis got sentenced for the weed trafficking or whatever.. 21 months not bad in my opinion. He's young and will be back on the street in no time.. I wonder since he's younger if he hangs around billy or gene.. Wonder what's up with angelesco last I heard he was running the handyman business with giangrande and probably shooting some speedballs and looking for more people to kill . Haha I'll give it to him the guys got fucking balls the size of bocce balls. Don't know how competent he is an an earner outside of shaking people down who are afraid of him.

A reputed mobster who lives in Medford received an 18-month federal prison sentence on Tuesday for his role in a marijuana distribution ring, according to court records.

Louis DiNunzio, 29, was sentenced in US District Court in Boston, where he had pleaded guilty in September to conspiring to distribute marijuana. He was also ordered to forfeit $10,000, US Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz’s office said in a statement.

DiNunzio is the son of Anthony DiNunzio and nephew of Carmen “The Cheese Man” DiNunzio, who both allegedly led the New England Mafia before they were imprisoned for other crimes.

According to prosecutors, Louis DiNunzio and three other men conspired between July 2013 and February 2014 to import large amounts of high-grade marijuana from California to Massachusetts, where it was distributed.

Among the shipments was a 23-pound haul of a potent type of marijuana known as “Skywalker,” which probably generated a profit of about $20,000, prosecutors wrote in a prior court filing.

Carmine P. Lepore, a lawyer for Louis DiNunzio, said Wednesday in an e-mail that he had hoped the presiding judge would consider a sentence of home confinement, “considering my client’s lack of criminal record and non-violent nature of the offense. However by the time of sentencing, it was clear, by the sentences given to my client’s co-defendants, that she would impose a small period of incarceration.”

Chief Judge Patti B. Saris previously sentenced co-defendants Joseph Spagnuolo-Kazonis and John Woodman to terms of 18 months and 12 months and one day, respectively, court records show.

Sentencing for a third man, Robert Fitzpatrick, has been deferred until March 2017 while he completes a drug treatment program, record show.

“Although I am disappointed that our [home confinement] recommendation was not followed, I am pleased that the sentence imposed was less than what the government sought, and consistent with the sentence given to” DiNunzio’s co-defendants, Lepore wrote on Wednesday.

Prosecutors had sought a 21-month penalty for DiNunzio and wrote in their sentencing recommendation that he was “responsible for between 40 and 60 kilograms” of marijuana and that “his past criminal activity is troubling.”

The government said Louis DiNunzio has a prior conviction for “running a ‘casino-style’ gambling table at the Sons of Italy social club in Boston” and also worked at his uncle’s cheese shop in the North End, which the FBI had bugged during its investigation of Carmen DiNunzio.

Louis DiNunzio must surrender to authorities by March 18, records show.

Anyone know if Louis Dinunzio's lawyer Carmine Lepore is related to Patriarca Made Member Dennis "Champagne Dennis" Lepore? I was wondering if he might be house counsel for the family similar to how Joseph Corozzo is to the Gambinos.
