Was also reading rereading mafia prince and some of Anastasia’s old articles and damn did Scarfo ruin everything. Killed 13 made guys when the family never had more than 60 when he was around. If I remember correctly the total figure of guys murdered was around 40 people on top of the fed pressure and indictments fucking crazy.

It’s a miracle this organization still exists even in its declined state
He didn’t come close to killing 13 made guys. He clipped Mickey DeVito, Pat Spirito, Chickie Narducci, and Sal Testa; that’s it.

I like GA but the dude gives each boss a narrative for whatever book he’s writing. He makes Scarfo out to be a cartoon character.

The 250-270 associate number was under Scarfo in the 1980s. It was undoubtedly higher than that under Bruno in the 1960s.

If you can imagine, Frank Friel is even worse than Anastasia about this in his book.

Once you look at all the murder conspiracies in the early 1990s, you could argue that Stanfa was just as violent if not more so than Scarfo. He only had about three years as Boss on the street, yet he is responsible for 5-7 murders (Francesco DiGiacomo, Rod Colombo, Mario Riccobene, Michael Ciancaglini, Frank Baldino, and possibly Louis Cappello and Nicasio Zagone). Then there were the attempted murders of Biagio Adornetto, Joseph Merlino and John Veasey. Then the conspiracies to kill Dale Lalwani, Ronald Mazzone, Fernando Vincenti, Donald Marino, Joseph Santaguida, Philip Colletti, George Anastasia, Kitty Caparella, Gaeton Lucibello's son, and possibly even Geraldo Rivera. Not to mention the over a dozen targets in the Ciancaglini-Merlino faction who were marked for death.

Both Stanfa and Scarfo fought wars as Boss, but Stanfa had a much shorter timeframe on the streets and was also okay with killing relatives of members, lawyers, and journalists.

I'm surprised sometimes when Anastasia paints Scarfo as the ultra-violent boss when it was Stanfa who wanted to blow him up.

Chin gigante,Stanfa was a sicilian boss. Is normal in Sicily to kill relatives if can't kill the targets.

From what I've read and watched, Scarfo was not a popular boss at all. His own nephew ranted about how paranoid and psychotic he was. What I'm wondering is, did Scarfo have a hand in previous boss's demise?

What Scarfo did is that whatever you do,you can be killed only because he thinked that you was a menace. Salvie was killed because a newspaper wrote that was the crown prince of philly mob,at some point thinked to kill the Merlino brothers but Leonetti made change idea.

To be fair, Phil Testa is responsible for a lot of the murders that for some reason gets blamed on Scarfo. He was having people killed at a crazy pace. He had five guys killed in a year. And Stanfa and Merlino had a bunch of people murdered in a short time period. Scarfo doesn't particularly stick out if you look at the actual math.

Could argue that Scarfo taking over after the last two bosses were killed in unsanctioned hits necessitated a heavy-handed approach. Doesn't make it morally right but I'm not sure what a mafia boss is supposed to do in that situation, especially with Riccobene openly defying him. According to Caramandi, Chucky Merlino told him one of the reasons they wanted to kill Riccobene was because he was an FBI informant which Caramandi didn't believe but we know it's true. Obviously Scarfo enjoyed killing which didn't help.

Caramandi said Sal Testa's underlings were making a case against Testa to Scarfo for some time before he approved the murder. He said it was Iannarella who finally convinced Scarfo at a meeting.
