All roads lead to New York.

I find this statement interesting:

"Given the history of the crime family he once headed — per capita the Philadelphia mob probably has more made members who turned government witness than any other organization — Scarfo's paranoia may be well founded."
"I figure I’m gonna have to do about 6000 years before I get accepted into heaven. And 6000 years is nothing in eternity terms. I can do that standing on my head. It’s like a couple of days here."

I never cared for Georgie Anastasia (at least in regards to his interviews). However, he is a hell of a historian on the Philly mob.

Its a stretch.. yeah they know Pic is because he is a rat. But in reality he was just a bounce around guy. Low level guy. Always broke. Many people don't know this about him but he wasn't from Belleville. He was raised middle class in Livingston NJ. He had a shit hole apartment in Belleville later in life. He choose his place in life. His parents could have afforded college for him and give him the same middle class existence he grew up with. Its also because of his middle class upbringing that allot of the Knock Around guys from Belleville and Newark didn't have a great deal of respect for a guy who grew up with every opportunity in life they really never had. But like you said he inflates his existence LCN to an unrealistic position that he has zero credibility...well accept for George and Capeci who will write a statement from just about anyone these days.

Yeah they have had at least 18-19 made members flip. More than any other family.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

It is pretty evenly distributed among the Scarfo, Stanfa and Natale-Merlino eras. During the Merlino era you had Natale, Previte, Caprio, Luisi and Tommy Scafidi all flip. They were the last group to flip. They haven't had a made member flip since 2000.

Scarfo had Delgiorno, Nicky the Crow, Phil Leonetti, Gino Milano, Larry Merlino, George Freselone and Wayne Grande (he flipped in 1993). Stanfa had John Veasey, Biagio Adornetto, Rosario Bellochi and Sergio Battaglia.

Philly is lucky because Merlino's guys have proven to be fiercely loyal to each other. A less tight knit group may have lead to more guys flipping with potentially fatal results to the family's future.

Scarfo's "paranoia" had nothing to do with rats, though. His paranoia was based on all of the scheming that had happened during the previous two regimes, not to mention the fact that he was relying on his captains and soldier to report back to him and they were always coming up with new beefs on guys.

He was just paranoid, he was a sick and evil man. Bruno wasn't paranoid.
