Wow Balsamo can’t seem to go 5 years without getting indicted. I have a feeling these arrests are part of a bigger investigation. The feds want Barney, but the only way they can get to him is if they get a capo to flip, like how they got Massino.

I highly doubt that Balsamo is communicating with Barney.I think that Barney’s circle of people who he communicates with in the Genovese Family is extremely small.People that he has known for decades at this point

Yeah I've written two books and (50+?) articles on Tampa. I also run the Tampa Mafia walking tour.

In Johnny 1and1's defense, the fact that Nicky Slash Calisi was in Florida (supposedly not vacationing at Disney) and was all but unknown on this board, despite some knowing he was a made guy, kind of shows that guys can operate below the radar in Florida. So we don't know what we don't know essentially.
Granted, nothing like in the 90's or 2000's, but there is still a viable presence apparently.
While I don't have any pics of him, I can tell you he always reminded me of a young Robert Mitchum.

That kid that ratted on Parello west side crew was meeting with Tom Cafaro who lives in FL and one of Barney crew members from the 80s. Kind of a sleeper but I believe has construction biz / $

IMO there is likely far less LE as FL doesn’t have the State Or City OC task forces NY and NJ have so it makes sense to play the numbers game and do a lot of meets in FL

Also given it’s open territory it’s very easy to open a bar or cafe and do big booking business with little LE heat and not to mention all kinds of health care scams, check cashing/ port , construction and Weed business.

One has to think there are a bunch of crews still active in the sports and probably drug business

As far as crews go, it depends on what you mean. Whether we're talking crews based there or NY crews active in Florida, the Ruggiero crew (Genovese) was busted in 2006, the Artuso crew (Gambino) in 2008, the Chilli crew (Bonanno) in 2005 and 2009, and the Maragni crew (Colombo) in 2011. As I've said, there has been a major drop-off in cases since afterward.

I haven't really seen anything regarding the ports in Miami since 2005. You still see the bookmaking networks extending down there from the Northeast, at least to a degree. The LCN has a fair amount of legitimate investments there. And you do see scams (healthcare, check-cashing) from time to time. But the pace and scope slowing is undeniable. You're seeing the same decrease in the mob's footprint in Florida that we've seen in Connecticut, Springfield, etc.

If people want want to believe there are a still a bunch of crews in the state, there's little info to base that on right now. And if they want to declare it as fact, they better be able to tell everyone what crews, who's running them, what they're involved in - and most of all - how exactly they came by this information.
