So is Calisi's operations are in NYC and he's residing in Florida or he is operating in Florida under the Genoveses?
I'd have reason to believe both. There is famiglia cooperation n SoFla. Still one active Trafficante. In Broward cooperation w/ Trafficante and Colombo's as it regards book making.
Some of the early reporting listed one gentleman as from Connecticut. I think three are from three, Ralph Balsamo, Michael Poli, 37, and Michael Messina. All located fairly close to NYC, but all also east of the Connecticut River, which is the important takeaway.
I base this (the Connecticut observations) on a conversation with a friend of mine, who is straightened out (but largely retired), and from Connecticut. I base the Florida speculation on when we're down in the winter, my conversations and observations. I frequent and am a welcome guest at their social spot in So Fla.
So none of what I post is verified fact, but I'd not discount it either.
Whatever you say, champ.
We've still seen the mob's bookmaking networks extend down to Florida to a degree but, as I've said before, I'm not convinced there's any NY family crews based there anymore.
I think the same can be said for Connecticut. The mob still has a presence in the suburbs north of the city, and some of that may spill over into Connecticut, but the cases in that state have really dropped over over the past decade.
Both Connecticut and Florida were outposts, so to speak, where the mob's footprint has diminished considerably as it's scope of influence has continued to retract.
It's unlikely that they have a whole detached crew operating in Florida. The last time we had some big news about Genovese's activities down there was from the Ruggiero indictment in 2006-2007. He was the South Florida capo and overseer of all Genovese activities in the state, but technically he was in charge of a Brooklyn crew. He even had to fly in muscle from New York for the more complex extortion jobs.
Anthony Lanza was in a similar situation in the 90s. He lived and operated in the Tampa - Saint Petersburg area but was in charge of a Brooklyn-based crew. I suspect Calisi's deal is similar.
I’m going to have to respectfully disagree as it regards Florida.
Florida is the future. The present as we have seen in countless federal indictments.
Connecticut I know less about. I know it is a wealthy state. I know sanitation is in play in Connecticut and extends into New York. I know the Connecticut river divides NE from where NY guys are supposed to operate. A rule not always adhered to, but the traditional dividing line and rule.
Connecticut does add to my argument about cooperation. Even with motorcycle gangs. I’d suggest a simple Google search of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Club, although in Springfield Mass, would provide some interesting reading. A place I’ve been too before FWIW. As an invited guest. It’s open to the public, not sure how welcome they’d be made to feel though.
At the risk of the other guy on here replying with another “whatever you say” snide remark that adds nothing, I’m related, and friends with some gentlemen that would know.
I can factually tell you that Florida is full of “gentlemen” There is a social club in pompano beach. They play golf at Adios. There is an Italian cafe next to a cigar place on Oakland park Blvd in the same mall as Martaranos.
Look up the owner of cigar republic. Look up his federal court filings. Look up caffe Sportivo. Look up ocean manor resort and Vito Vizzi. Look up his father, who isn’t doing well by the way.
Tom Mix ran his first marijuana thing in an office building in that area. He’s in Delray.
I can list more that I’ve seen, met and engaged with. And no, I’m not associated at this point, and don’t want to be. It’s a long story and you’re not going to get all of it.
But do some searches of these locations and names. Florida isn’t as bad as nyc where gentlemen trip over each other, but outside of Chicago and NYC, it’s about as densely populated with gentlemen as anyplace in the USA.

Not sure how Florida is the future.
If you look at the number of indictments, there was a huge drop off in indictments from the first decade (36) of the 21st century to the second (7). That's an 80% decline. Again, I'm not sure there are any crews actually based there anymore. The bulk of whatever guys are there seem to be on vacation or retired. Back in 2011 the FBI said Russian OC was a more pressing concern than LCN. Florida seems to be be trending the way Las Vegas/the western states did for the NY Mafia.
Springfield is another example. There doesn't appear to be a functioning crew there anymore. One known member still living and he's in prison. The handful of associates that remain are under a NY based crew. I'm aware of the Mt. Carmel Club. It's been in the news, though it seems pretty irrelevant to this discussion.
Irrelevant is a word misused, and not applicable here.
I will agree the Russians in South Florida are a force to be reckoned with, and probably larger than the Sicilians.
There has been some cooperation with Russians in SoFla. The one that comes to mind immediately is the strip club deal with Michael Peter.
I’m just going to suggest what appears to be, and what is are two different things. And I understand that what I post can’t really be documented with court filings, media reports etc. I get that. All I really can do is throw out some names and places. Someone can look, and maybe come to the conclusion that there is some smoke, so maybe there is a fire.
It’s secret for a reason. I look at the Colombo leadership and membership chart as an example. One places has Sal Mangiameli Jr listed as a soldier. He was never made. His father didn’t want him to be after losing two other sons.
So someplace between documented history, FBI intelligence, court filings etc., and what I, and maybe some others, post is probably closer to reality than the first three items on their own. That’s just a truism due to the secrecy. I watch some of these videos, get bored and can’t watch the sensationalism. They glorify that entire lifestyle. It ain’t’t that way. Even if you manage to make some money, stay out of trouble, and walk away, it ain’t that way. Which brings up another point. They say you can never quit. That’s just bs. Lots of guys have, and you can.
john 1 and 1 for what its worth chin didnt want his sons made but theres 2 of them inducted into his family today maybe after he died but there made. i htink they were made even earlier but who knows

Anybody getting a Vacari feeling around here?
Same here. Seems we've been getting a few of these types lately if they aren't all him.
Pogo
It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Now that you mention it, there doesn't seem to have been that many actual self-standing, Florida-based crews through the years.

Really? Not bad for a guy pushing 106.
Unless you're not referring to Tom Mix Santoro.
Perhaps this Tom Mix is your father who's a made guy?
He's referring to Colombo member Thomas "Tom Mix" Farese, though I'm not sure what the point is. Farese sort of goes to my point. He's one of the few members today we can name that live and are active in Florida.

It could be Tom Mix Brady for all I care. Guys full of s.
Guys here for 4 weeks and he's half a wiseguy. GTFOOH.
Wow Balsamo can’t seem to go 5 years without getting indicted. I have a feeling these arrests are part of a bigger investigation. The feds want Barney, but the only way they can get to him is if they get a capo to flip, like how they got Massino.

Great word usage here. Outpost... I like that. I'm applying that to Canada from now on... outpost.
