Re: 6 charged in Genovese bust
Anyone know if Balsamo's father or other family members are connected? They're a pretty 'plugged in' family in the Bronx Italian scene from what it seems. Seems odd that a legit family with deep roots in the community has a son that gets involved with LCN, but I guess it wouldn't be the first time. I think the brother of Christopher Londonio (of wrongfully accused Lucchese fame) was a Ralph Balsamo associate at the time he was killed by the cops in 2004-2005
I don't have expectations of this being a huge bombshell of a case, but I'm hoping we get a little more info on the Bronx Genovese through this... at least the structure of this crew (or two crews?) and maybe the names of some other soliders. Doubtful but maybe...

Allegedly Ralph Balsamo's father was never really involved in illegal business, but once his son became associated with the Genovese, the funeral home became a hot spot for organized crime dealings.

Re: 6 charged in Genovese bust
Frequently see guys out in front of Balsamo's that look the part. Balsamo or any of his guys connected to the Genovese social club that's by Balsamo's on Westchester Ave ("Italo-American United Civil League")? I've seen the gate over the front door open a couple of times, so someone is going in there still at least.eboli wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 1:43 pmFrom an older thread:newera_212 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 12:52 pm Anyone know if Balsamo's father or other family members are connected? Re: 6 charged in Genovese bust
The Giglio Boys club, which was identified by LE as Angelo Prisco's base of operations, was at 3203 Westchester, at the corner with Wilkinson and across the street from Balsamo and the place I mentioned. I was talking about the Italo-American United Civic League at 3194 Westchester, which was incorporated as a non-profit in 1950.NYNighthawk wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 7:50 pm Wasn;t it called the gigglio club back in the late 80's and 90's?
There was an actual Giglio Society based next door to the Giglio Boys Club that held an annual Giglio feast at least through the 1990s with a procession that went down to Ericson Ave (they moved it to Waters Pl later). There's much less info about that society, however, compared to the better-known ones in East Harlem, Williamsburg, and Arthur Ave. Not sure if this feast was for St Anthony, like the one on Arthur Ave, or Our Lady of Mt Carmel, like the one in East Harlem.
Here's a video of the feast in 1985. The storefront with the OGIGLIO sign I believe is the laundromat next door to where the Giglio Boys Club was.

So is Calisi's operations are in NYC and he's residing in Florida or he is operating in Florida under the Genoveses?

Re: 6 charged in Genovese bust
The FBI must be desperate for budget reasons before Congress to show this bust. This arrest barely scratches the surface of the most powerful mafia family - the Genovese. This was for show and tell and will disappear in a year with probation for everyone.

Re: 6 charged in Genovese bust
I'd have reason to believe both. There is famiglia cooperation n SoFla. Still one active Trafficante. In Broward cooperation w/ Trafficante and Colombo's as it regards book making.
Some of the early reporting listed one gentleman as from Connecticut. I think three are from three, Ralph Balsamo, Michael Poli, 37, and Michael Messina. All located fairly close to NYC, but all also east of the Connecticut River, which is the important takeaway.
I base this (the Connecticut observations) on a conversation with a friend of mine, who is straightened out (but largely retired), and from Connecticut. I base the Florida speculation on when we're down in the winter, my conversations and observations. I frequent and am a welcome guest at their social spot in So Fla.
So none of what I post is verified fact, but I'd not discount it either.

Re: 6 charged in Genovese bust
Mike Ragusa spends a lot of time in Florida, so may be typical of these Genovese guys (or New Yorkers with a couple dollars, generally)
Re: 6 charged in Genovese bust
When all those guys are in Florida they all mingle. Whether from boston,Bronx or Bayonne. The Springfield crew would work with soldiers and capos from all different family's on untaxed cigarettes. Sports. All types of weird shit. Anything to make a buck

Just a hunch... but I would bet that it was for Lady of Mt. Carmel and not Saint AnthonyPolackTony wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 10:29 pmNYNighthawk wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 7:50 pm Wasn;t it called the gigglio club back in the late 80's and 90's?
