Genovese Family associate John Porcello indicted

He wanted the dough.

Reputed Genovese crime family associate John “Johnny Pizza” Porcello was indicted in Brooklyn federal court this week for running an illegal sports betting ring and overseeing a loan sharking racket, according to court documents unsealed Thursday.

Porcello, 59, raked in the cheese with co-defendant Ronald Seebeck, 56, in the loansharking scheme from September 2016 through August 2021, federal prosecutors charged.

The pair also ran a sports gambling ring of at least five people from 2020 through 2021 that produced more than $2,000 in profits on a given day, the indictment states.

Porcello, of Yonkers, and Seebeck, of Tuckahoe, both pleaded not guilty at their arraignments in Brooklyn federal court and were released on bond, a spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office said.

If convicted, they face a maximum of 20 years in prison on the loan sharking charge and five years for the gambling ring.

Porcello, who previously owned a pizzeria in the Bronx, was busted by the feds in 2011 as part of what was billed at the time as the largest mob bust in US history.

The pizzaman was rounded up with 13 fellow wiseguys connected to the Genovese family that year, including several mobsters in the family’s leadership.

Porcello copped to one loan sharking conspiracy count and was sentenced to 13 months in prison, according to court records.

Attorneys for Porcello and Seebeck did not immediately return request for comment.

Will be interesting to what sentence he gets in the post Covid world

If no violence there’s a reasonable chance he gets no time , how does LE respond to that and what investigations do they finance going fwd (only violent acts & labor corruption ) ? Back in the day this could of been 5 years + given priors.

When it comes to the LCN, gambling investigations have often been the gateway for law enforcement to discover and prosecute additional crimes.

“$2,000 in profits on a given day, the indictment states.”
Wow, so even with legalised gambling, the mob is still making big money from it

You cant bet on credit with legal sports gambling. If you are a gambling addict and need to bet on credit..you are betting with a mob bookie who will hand you off to his lender(lcn) for a loan so you can bet. If you are a small biz owner even better..you now have a new partner lol

Also have to pay taxes on legal sports gambling. No taxes with mob bookies

It was at least that much. $2,000 is the legal benchmark.

These book(s) are safer then fanduel draftkings etc. But go into any sports forum on reddit or talk to anyone who knows anything about the current sports betting climate... kids are losing loads of money betting on these wacky parlays like player to score first basket or these obscure player props that someone will post a winner? 90% it's bs. More over I have a draftkings acct. If you want a parlay you have to turn the option onthey delist all the odds for each pick!! I said this is insane. Ppl like above just normal straight bets mostly I mean some guys will let you do some things but nothing as outrageous as these legal entities offer

I've read that many longtime players who have opened accounts with legal books have still kept their accounts with offshore as well.

The legal books help out as well because it weeds out the weak. The serious players stay, the ones who are always nickel and diming eventually peter out, most at least. You do have more ppl complaining when they lose oh such and such had this line and if you had I would a won etc etc but again those are usually rhe nickel and dimers.
