Pogo, what is the criteria for a jurors age? Maybe the younger generation doesn't know about the mob and Gotti so they are moat likely going to give this kind of opinion?

Also you have to remember most people believe everything they see in the news and the explanations given. Even worse a lot of people have a difficulty between real and movies. So in the news they say gangsters from other countries are more dangerous, the black gangs, latin gangs and so on. So people believe it. Even the movies there are more Russian gangster type characters and so the people think the Mafia is dead and not so dangerous.

Also, I think the Gravano effect is still there in some minds. They think the witnesses are just criminals trying to escape punishment.

You'd think so, right, cheech?
They (gl) sat in on the trial. As they do many court cases. They can't critique the golden girl because they'd lose their juice with the feds... She fucked up and blew the case for the government. Plain and simple. She's a disgrace. Feds have a 97% conviction rate. Argentieri essentially didn't hit the broad side of the barn with her 6 gun. Got cocky, jurors pick up on shit like that.
These jurors know of the mob, but they aren't mob aficionados. GL sits there with decades worth of experience in mob goings on and expects a bunch of regular joes to fill in the gaps? Nah. Jurors don't give a shit and are pissed off to be there in the first place. Argentieri said/did something they didn't like and she soured the majority of them, if not all.

The funniest, stupiest, most arrogant mistake the prosecution did was decide not to call Massino to the stand.
Asaro's capo at the time, received payment from Lufthansa etc.

But the case was so watertight they didnt need to.
Because Asaro was alsways going to get convicted. No doubt.
Thats what happened isnt it..?

I'm glad he won this case was a waste of tax payer money and the only reason it was brought to trial was to put a feather in the cap of the govt. They want to blame a mob guy for the biggest mafia heist ever and now that asaro was the last around to blame they will never do it! Burke honestly committed the perfect crime in some ways. No one has ever been convicted for it and now no one ever will be. That Gaspar vallenti is a real piece of shit that was more then likely hated by jurors he's broke so oh let me snitch on my cousin and lie about something that happened thirty years ago. Maybe he should have got a job instead of becoming a fucking rat.

Lest we forget, Asaro was also charged with murder, which has no statute of limitations. And he and the others in the indictment were also hit with more recent loansharking charges, which made the racketeering charge possible. Think what you want about Vallenti but Asaro is cut from the same cloth. And trying to bring a career criminal like him to justice is never a waste of tax payer money.

i see what your saying and I agree with you on how you said that. How ever I personally believe that the Lufthansa hype of this case was nothing more then the govt being able to say we solved the biggest heist in history... Chalk it up! But Asaro is a criminal of course but people are tired of criminals playing the snitch card... I'll be a criminal my whole life and when I get caught or times get hard I'll just switch sides. I've always believe you do the crime you do the time. I have a personal question for you... You being a probation officer deal with all kinds of people do you have more respect for someone who says yea I did it I fucked up I'm gonna do my time and I'll either straighten up or I'll go back to being a criminal. Or do you have more respect for someone who says it was this persons not mine can I get a little reduction off my sentence if I give you some info on one of my buddies? And this isn't to start a fight I know uou and I have some different views on things but I always respect your views even if they aren't the same as mine. Your an educated dude and you don't flip flop on what you believe in.

Well I don't think either of them deserve respect, though I do see the point about one guy holding to his code - as immoral as it may be.

But this is where we go back to the point I've made before about the ultimate goal for the feds being to destroy the mob as an organization. It may seem unfair to let one guy off the hook to convict another but making deals with turncoats has always been a key part of attacking the mob. Its about bringing to an end the criminal organization known as the Bonanno Crime Family more than making sure Vallenti also gets his just desserts. And it's always going to be lowlifes like him who have info to give on other lowlifes. Birds of a feather...

I'm no mob cheerleader, just a fairly disgruntled individual who will have wasted 3+ years of my life to these government jobbers. In my world, you fuck up, you get pounced with ridicule. Their turn. I'm sure they've got eyes here too. Take your medicine. (to quasi-quote KGB from my favorite scene in rounders) It hurts, doesn't it. You still can't believe what the jury said.
