Manfredi Mineo's brother

Post by B. »

- Speculated about this in the Enzo+Piddu thread but was recently able to confirm Manfredi Mineo's brother Dr. Corradino Mineo is the same one who was a famous mathematician and geodesist in Palermo: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corradino ... atematico)

- One of Corradino's sons was also a successful mathematician and another one became a politician. Corradino's namesake grandson is also a Dr. and politician who served on the Italian Senate and grew up in Partanna: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corradino_Mineo

- Manfredi would stay with his brother Dr. Corradino Mineo during his many trips to Sicily.

- No question Manfredi Mineo came from the upper classes of Palermo society. Not surprising given his sister married Palermo boss Antonino Grillo who was an international maritime enterpreneur that lived in an impressive gated estate inside Palermo -- these guys usually married within the same class.

- Manfredi's wife was from Rome and was living there before joining her husband in NYC, indicating the Mineos were well-traveled before coming to the US. The wife does not appear to have any Sicilian roots. Corradino married a Messinese noblewoman.

- Still looking into whether Mineo's nephew Francesco Grillo came to the US and lived in Providence (and possibly NY later). Antonino Grillo and his wife Lucia (Mineo's sister) may have also spent a short period in the US with their son after the Palermo war but difficult to confirm right now. Bill Feather has a Frank Grillo as a Gambino member who died pre-1975 and this might match Antonino's son but I don't know where he got the name.

A lot more to Mineo's story that will hopefully reveal itself with time.

Here is Dr. Corradino -- if there was a brotherly resemblance, it could give us an idea what Manfredi looked like:

Excellent discovery.

Now it makes me wonder how many alta families there were with affiliation. Were they one-offs, black sheep or part of some larger extension.

Buscetta and Allegra said there were plenty involved but they had their own peer group within the mafia. Allegra mentioned multiple brothers in one of these families being made.

No reason to suspect Corradino Mineo of membership but his academic background alone wouldn't rule him out. I'd guess some older Mineo relatives were made -- marriages were usually arranged and Lucia Mineo marrying someone like Nino Grillo is a big sign.

Valachi said Manfredi Mineo was one of the guys who killed another member and stole his wife, hence the rule, but I think he was mistaken. He did say Mineo's wife was happy he was dead so she could return to Italy, but again who knows. She was probably from a reputable Roman family given Manfredi's brother married a noblewoman from Messina.
