On a side note was he informing on the Patriarca crime family and other criminals in Boston?

He OD'd locked up in Norfolk. He was a heavy drug user, it has been speculated he was given a hot shot. He was incredibly dangerous, unpredictable, and impulsive. Im sure he became a liability. He was also an informant. The Bennet gang was based in Roxbury where I believe the Flemmis grew up. Wimpy Bennet was the leader. They were a force in their area. I believe Flemmi took out all 3 brothers to take over. If not all three, than 2 out of three, Wimpy and Walter. Salemme was also in this crew. Theres some books out there that have more info. Emily Sweeney's book and Rifleman come to mind.

A hot shot is a bad dose of drugs that is intended to kill that person. Usually laced with something that will kill you when injected such as rat poison, battery acid, etc. I think there were rumors that Wimpy may have be an informer, but don't quote me on that. Yes Rico and Condon were Jimmy's handlers. As for Jimmy M and Jackie S, I have asked this question myself. Both were made, both have brothers who cooperated. The word always was JImmy ran most of the gambling on the south shore. I've heard Jackie Salemme would not have ever been made if it wasn't for his brother Frank, whereas Jimmy Martorano was a force in his own right without his brother Johnny.

Vincent Teresa claimed in his book My life in the Mafia on p. 123 that he was told by Henry Tameleo to stay away from Wimpy as he states that 'This is Uncle Henry talking to you now. Nobody knows this. Whimpy’s gonna get whacked out. He’s a stoolie. We got the information straight from our man in the Boston police department.” so it seems that the senior members of the Mafia thought that Bennett might have been an informant.
