It seems they were really bad at evaluating credit worthy borrowers. A majority of the people they borrowed to never paid them back and defaulted. And that's not criminal. I think that's what might get them less prison time

This case was always interesting to me as I feel like this is a new direction OC has probably infiltrated more than we are aware of. Thanks for sharing

All right what's the connection with Cosa Nostra here? Says the enforcer guy is with the Gambinos (says "member" but the press is sloppy about formal membership) but this is in Philly.

The feds described the bodybuilder guy as a New Jersey-based Gambino associate.

There are definitely mob guys connected to some of these mca companies. Many of the MCAs are run by Russians, so I’m sure they have a similar OC angle to them. The industry is ripe wjth fraud.

If I'm not mistaken, Joseph and James LaForte are descendants (grandsons?) of late Gambino soldier Joseph "The Cat'' LaForte. I've seen then labeled as associates most of the time. They've been involved in gambling, loansharking as well as other scams in New Jersey for years. I think Par Funding started out in Jersey but eventually extended down to Philadelphia.
All roads lead to New York.

That's what I presumed, too, that these guys are the Cat's relatives. Thanks for the confirmation. I wonder if this had to get by Merlino & all the pals in Philly, or at this point the Gambinos can just do whatever they want there.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 6:01 pmIf I'm not mistaken, Joseph and James LaForte are descendants (grandsons?) of late Gambino soldier Joseph "The Cat'' LaForte. IMO if someone in Philly especially a big name like Merlin’s we’re getting a cut they would of indicted them with the others to make the case more attractive

Yup his kids...they also owned a strip of stores on New dorp Lane in Staten Island which held the night gallery a bar run by lucchese Joe Datello
Re: Here's a new article on the Laforte case with more people getting arrested.
They also had a bar/lounge in SI, think on Richmond road near todt hill.
One of Par’s employees at a time was the son of a lucchese soldier.

MCA industry is disgusting. All of the hucksters and con artists who survived the boiler room era of the early 90s and couldn't figure out how to get a productive, legit job have moved into the MCA industry. I get happy when people shoot into these companies - although it seems like most of them do get caught and jammed up

I used to live in Georgia they had titlemax down there. F*cking insane. The states they have been able to do business in over the years has decreased over the years though based on predatory practices and such.newera_212 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 03, 2021 8:48 am MCA industry is disgusting. There is a Netflix episode based on Scott Tucker. The cash advance race car driver guy. He ended getting RICO charges brought against himTonyd621 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 7:09 pmI used to live in Georgia they had titlemax down there. F*cking insane.
