Imagine him and the rest of the Philly Mob sitting down and chatting about sports betting on a podcast. Lol. Why not?
Do you mean the time he called in to the sports radio show to talk about Lindros? The audio of that is in this link:

If he can make money on a podcast why not? He' d prob make more money off it then an actual bookmaking ring ! All the good gamblers bet legally now. The deadbeats/loanshark victims are whats left. People that need to bet on credit. And they aren't worth 7yrs in federal prison trying to collect from them. Most are dead broke few have their own businesses you can get a hold of.

Maybe a cooking podcast with the Kitchen Consigliere
Borgesi doing a podcast with Lutz would be entertaining.

Also the ones that don't want to pay taxes. New York state has a 10% tax on commercial sports betting, New Jersey 9.75% on retail sports betting revenue and 14.25% on online mobile/sports betting revenue. Pennsylvania has a 36% tax on sports betting revenue. Connecticut 13.75%. Rhode Island 51%. Illinois 15-17%. Also, in all those states except PA, you can't place legal bets in interstate collegiate teams. While I think only time will ultimately tell, there was a study done last year that had some interesting results.

Consumer spending in the U.S. with traditional illegal bookmakers declined 25% in 2019

Legal sports betting – including mobile wagering – rose 12%.

Illegal offshore sportsbooks also saw a 3% increase in states with legal sports betting and a 24% increase in money wagered in states that have not yet approved the activity.

Bettors who have made a shift away from “the dark side” most often cited confidence that bets will be paid out (25%), awareness of legal options (20%), a desire to use a regulated book (19%), promotions offered by legal operators (19%), and reading news about legal sports betting in their home state.

52% of sports bettors participate in the illegal market.
74% say its important to only use legal sportsbooks
55% of legal bettors believe they are mostly betting legally
84% of bettors are surprised to learn they are betting on illegal websites

I agree with Wiseguy and Rocco. Makes perfect sense, especially for Merlino who doesn't mind the attention. Adapting to changing times, and he will certainly make bank. Call it Betting with the Boss.

If you guys honestly think Joey will do a regular podcast you are absolutely out of your mind. He just got off paper for a gambling offense and the feds already will do anything to get Joey even if is a gambling subject. Joey is a gangster to the core, he’s not getting his hands dirty or anything but everyone knows where the money goes. To Joey.

Merlino on a sportsbettting pod wouold be a good way to show a legit income, if nothing else.

@Wiseguy: RI 52% tax on legal SB! Who the fuck is wants to give half to the government when they win. Joke. Loose $500, win $250. You just halved your odds. RI OC will be around a while.

Allow me to clarify. Do I think Merlino will do a podcast? No. But, offered enough money, I wouldn't be completely shocked if he were to do something like what has been described, i.e. sports related with maybe some "purely for entertainment purposes" talk about sports betting.

Yeah, that definitely stood out compared to all the rest. It's the highest tax rate on legal sports betting in the nation.

Now, unless I'm mistaken, those tax rates apply to the legal sportsbooks themselves. But as one article said, "Illegal operators can already offer more attractive odds and lines than legal operators—who must build the need to pay taxes into their revenues and, therefore, adjust their odds and lines accordingly—enabling illegal operators to have a better chance to retain high-volume customers. With high tax rates, the lines and odds that legal operators can afford to offer to consumers inherently decrease in attractiveness as compared to their illegal counterparts, further exacerbating illegal operators’ competitive advantage.

That same article (below) also said to not underestimate the advantage of offering betting on credit.

You can earn $ gambling and selling weed with little worry about jail time. Legalization may help them stay alive , strangely

52% of sports bettors participate in the illegal market.
74% say its important to only use legal sportsbooks
55% of legal bettors believe they are mostly betting legally
84% of bettors are surprised to learn they are betting on illegal websites

“84% of bettors are surprises to learn they are betting on illegal websites”

I know that’s a quote Wiseguy - but that may be the funniest thing I’ve heard all day - I’d be shocked if there were more than 3% of that 84% were actually surprised they were betting on an illegal website 😂😂😂

Yeah, that part was from a survey the larger study conducted. While I imagine there would be some confusion with new players trying to get in on the now legalized market, I can't imagine the more seasoned ones don't know the difference between DraftKings and an offshore site in Costa Rica.

I couldn’t agree with you more Cheech. Unless the 84% were answering that question to avoid acknowledging they were willingly participating in an illegal gambling website, I don’t know how they could have that answer.
